Too many people who think stats = lyfe would stop playing. EA do get money for ranked servers iirc. It won't happen.

Don't fool yourself, EA's contract with gamespy to host the BF2 stats servers has come to an end and they are not going to renew it. It will almost definitely be an annual contract paid in advance and obviously EA are not willling to to take the risk in investing money into a venture they are very unlikely to see a return from. Nobody is buying BF2 now (apparently) and that is the major source of BF2 income, not the ranked servers.

BF2 stats are about to go the way of the dodo. Didn't the last BF2 patch make an allowance for all unlocks to be available in unranked servers or something? If so, that will have to be the way ahead. Something will have to be patched in though to get around the account login in thing. If the stats servers no longer exist there'll be no way to retrieve your account info to play online.

guys face it. why would anybody go out and buy bf2 now when its two years old and when its replacement (2142) is already out. nobody is buying bf2 anymore so EA is not making money on this product anymore. besides somebody playing bf2 is not playing some other game that they are or will be selling. its normal for them to ween you off the game so you'll lay down 50 bucks on something new to fill your battlefield void.

but its not like you can't play it anymore and i don't think they'll eliminate the unlocks...probably unlock all of them. also, don't think they'll remove all the stats just not update them anymore...actually gives bf2 a nice sense of closure don't you think?

No, I don't think so. Look, I knew such a day will come when all the stats will go to hell - of course, those stats are not going to be with us forever, but I was sure that EA will keep them for at least another year, maybe even 2 years!! Keep them as long as there is interest in ranked servers - and they get money for those servers!

If EA does stop the stat feed, they can go fuck themselves. And they can do it without my money as I will never buy a single EA product ever again. Period.
