Is your tapwater drinkable without cleaning, or boiling? Do you have limit of spending your tapwater?

Here in Finland we have clean water and no limits of spending. A 1000 Litres of pure water costs here around 1-5€ depending on the place. I also think that when they have shortage of water in Africa, Finland is among the last ones what runs out of water. Here we also spend water on watering fields, witch is pretty much argued in here.

Remember, this is junk drawer so no argueing.

Drinkable with no spending limit here.

Also, don't worry about your English.  You speak it better than a lot of people I know who were born in the States.

I don't know about a spending limit. Do you mean I can only get so much tap water per month or something? If so then no, they just charge more money if you use more

I don't normally drink the tapwater straight. I put it through a Brita filter+pitcher, it's clean then. But DC's supposedly got some lead problems in certain pipes... so thank god for Brita, lol.

With the limit I mean something like you have to pay more, or simply when you have exeeded you limit you don't get anymore water.

Are you sure that you have the cleanest water? I can believe you, but here we have some rivers, creeks, springs and lakes in Lapland where I can drink water without cleaning it in anyway.

A report several years ago showed UK tap water was way cleaner than most bottled water. Heavy metals and all sorts of shit in fashionable bottled water.. like the one "purified by volcanoes" i.e. full of sulfur!

Drinkability? Well in my town its fairly chlorinated, but I guess you could drink it. Melbourne is supposed to be horrible though, they add fluoride too apparently, great for teeth, not so much for anything else.

What is 'spending'? Like a cap on how much we can have? We don't have that in Australia, our water rates ($$) are an incentive not to use it. Much cheaper for me to rent a water cooler for $20/yr, with 25L bottles at $9.

We do however have some shires (uh, local governments, not hobbits) that make you pay the Water Board for having a dam. Thankyou Water Board, I paid to dig a hole in my paddock and now I have to pay YOU?

The Melbourne water is not that bad.

Water can be classified as being 'hard' or 'soft'. This refers to the amount of minerals dissolved in the water. Ground water has a lot of minerals dissolved, because it has been flowing through rocks. This water is considered 'hard'. 'Soft' water has less dissolved minerals and is considered safer to drink.

The Australian Water association has given different cities ratings based on levels of dissolved minerals. Adelaide water is rated as 'very hard' while Melbourne water is rated as 'very soft'.

Again, it's not that bad.

Drinkable? Right out the tap, yes. After it's been run through the softener and the boiler for a while, no. Dissolved minerals make it tasty.

And no limit on it, either. Flat monthly fee for as much water as you can get out the tap, unless some idiot's put a backhoe through the pipe.

everyone pays for water... if you are a grownup and live in a house/pay bills there is always a fee for water consumption, although generally quite low in north america

Australia is in the worst drought ever seen, and we are quite scarce of water, i think our dam levels are at 30% now. And now we are demolishing streets and houses to make way for De-salination pipelines.
