Ok any help would be great guys.
With my tax return i am purchasing some new parts.
E6600
corsiar XMS ddr2 800
EVGA 680i sli mobo
and possibly an 8800gtx.

Heres my dilema. I have a 680w aspire psu, right now its running my dual 7900ts. It carries 24a on the 12v rails. Nvida says you need 30 for the 8800gtx and 26 for the GTS if im not mistaken. In reality would my psu run the GTX? I mean will six amps really make a difference.

BTW im also going to be runnign two optical drives and two HDD's. oh and my xfi. Help will be rewarded with sweet sweet karma!!!!

I don't know if this helps are not, I'm not that technical.

Depends on the wattage.  watts= amps*volts.  so if they said they need more amps then it requires more watts.

Correct me if I am wrong.

It might not run properly if it is underpowered

well the psu is 680 watts with 24 amps on the 12v rail. it runs my dual 7900's ok. Personally i think it will run fine, guess i just want to hear it from someone else before i spend 550$

In all honesty if you're running two 7900's then you're going to be well off for quite a while longer. Wait a few more months until they come out with a better DX10 card. The 8800 was just their first attempt so they could be the first to have a DX10 card on the market. It needs a lot of improvements. I would hold off on the graphics card and upgrade your power supply. My personal recommendation is the Thermaltake 750W psu. Has 4 independent 12v rails which is just plain awesome. Clean, reliable power to all the major parts of your computer without anything sharing a 12v.

oh sorry i missread your post, i thought you were powering just one 7900.  With running two, your psu should be enough to power it.  I dont think anything really bad will happen if its underpowered slightly, just a tad less performance

Your PSU probably has dual 12v rails. The combined total amperage for both rails is what you should go by.

you should be ok, but I would wait for the rest of the 8800 series in march. for now upgrade your psu. enermax has a awesome kilowatt psu which is modular. just partial to that type of psu.

Hey man someone has gotta do it, I get paid to do shit that most folks just don't wanna do (sometimes at 3am too) but it's still better than working at a fast food place or not working at all.

+1 too for being a 15yr old that doesn't live off of mommy & daddy.

Expand your clientele.  Get to know doctors and lawyers.  They know nothing about computers, but they'll pay $40-$50 an hour to fix their computers.  I should know, one of my nephews did this during his high school years.   Also, look around to see if you can work as a retainer for small businesses.  For $10K or more a year as a retainer, you only work for them when they need you.  It's typically about a few days a month of work for each contract.  With my son going to a private school, I know a good many parents who own their own businesses.   Almost all of them need retainers.
