If you can solo the gunship in 2142, AND not crash into a mountainside, you will have earned my respect; that thing drops like a rock if you jump out of the pilot seat. Its not a question of skill, its a question of gravity.
It's not terribly hard to solo a 2142 gunship, but it does take coordination. However, I'm not especially coordinated, so anyone could do it. First, fly to 250-300m in altitude, and fly straight at your target and stay about the same distance away (i.e. your HUD reads 200-300m), point you nose down a few degrees. Switch to your gunner seat, and wait a moment for your target to come into your targeting reticle. Shoot and steer the missile to its target, quickly hit F1 again, you'll be pointing almost straight at the ground, simply pull up, the ship is very maneuverable as it exits this maneuver. You'll have to do a quick switch to reload for the next shot. Rinse and repeat. It'll probably help if you up your aircraft mouse sensitivity.
It's still lots better to have a friend piloting, and I think using teamspeak with the pilot is essential to being really successful. Tearing everything apart with a gunship is a blast. It's not the best vehicle in the game because it owns everything, which it can if you've a really good pilot/gunner team, it's the best because it's Really Freaking Fun. Also, there's nothing like the feeling of tearing a walker to shreds with a few missiles and some good timing.
