Damn, I... had something for this

I have 2142 for a while now and have not had many issues. However, recently I have been kicked by PB fairly often. I have manually updated PB and have not altered any files - be they localization files, auto-login or whatnot. It is pure vanilla 2142.

Some of the errors have been:

- PB packet loss
- something about missing parts (update of PB seems to have stopped this)

The worst thing is, I have been playing fine for ages without updating PB and this missing parts stuff is recent. It also only seems to happen sometimes (eg last night I played for a while with no issues, today its 20mins on 20mins off sort of thing).

Any help appreciated (and if it solves the problem, there will be some karma coming your way)

Are you running a router with a built in firewall?

i have allowed the punkbuster port through the router and it has not fixed my issues one iota. It is happenig just as often - on both internode and iconz servers.

this is killing me, because i really can only play on the weekend (to much schoolwork during the week) and half of today has been spent trying to get fucking punkbuster to work.

latest error is: "PB Important! Losing Key Packets" (it then disconnects after 1 second). It sounds like there is a bandwidth or firewall problem, but my ping is fine, i have allowed PB through the router and internet speed is the same as always (512k). So once again i am stumped, and just a little pissed off.

Missing packets probably means you've got bandwidth troubles. Ping has little to do with it.

Hmm I was hoping it wasn't going to be bandwidth issues (and btw I know ping isn't bandwidth dependent, just put that in to show how things are otherwise the same). Bandwidth is pretty much the only thing i cant fix, unless it is because of the router slowing the connection.

It just seems strange that this has suddenly started happening - I have played with capped internet (going at 64k) and it has not been an issue.

@ bootsy: I tried as you suggested (obviously not overnight), and unplugged the modem and router for 30 minutes, and then repaired the connection. Sorry to say that it did not fix .

I think the issue must be that PB has updated, requiring increased bandwidth and in the last 24 hours or so my internet has shaped (over 2gb limit) and the 64k can't give PB + 2142 the bandwidth they need. I guess its no more 2142 until the 18th (the date the month "starts").

EDIT :
A quick search on google has shown me that this bandwidth related issue has happened before with 1942, and 56k users were having the same problems i am.

yeah it is a bandwith issue... i used to have it.

Only fix i did, was to increase the bandwith settings inside BF2142. Try it... it might work, it might not.

ok good to see im not alone (i think.....). I'm with iiNet, I guess Telstra and iinet would use the same copper wires.

I'm quite convinced mine is bandwidth issues, because I play for a certain amount of time and then it happens. Interesting side note, short rounds are no issue - I could play an infinite consecutive amount og ~10 or 15 minute games.

Also, it only started happening after my internet got capped to 64k.......but hopefully it is something else that can be fixed.
