Just wondering what people thought of UAVs.

I have about 2 hours of command time (usually if we have no CO) and every time I noticed that UAVs have turned the game from my team having 1 CP which is being raped (result of no UAV IMO) to winning!

As a player I find them very helpful to grenade unseen players. So I say best weapon.

That's being pedantic.

I would say that the UAV is probably the most useful complementary device in the BF2 arsenal, however usefulness is but one criterion of "best", so I wouldn't go as far as to saying that it is the best weapon/device in the game.

Also, as you said, you think it's the best because you can see what you can't normally see. But in your case it wouldn't have been helpful at all if you didn't have the grenades to make use of it. So the UAv's useless if you have no weapon to complement the extra info it gives you, hence it's the most useful complementary device.

I meant that on Karkand, a shitty map that everyone plays, 9/10 deaths is from grenade spam.  If the UAV nulled all Grenadess in the area it was over, it would be awesome for those maps.

UAV has its ups... everyone seems to have mentioned an up, but the one down I've noticed, and this is indirectly quoting someone in one of the guides I've read, is that, if you see an enemy UAV overhead, chances are... the enemy is there. So if the enemy sees your UAV overhead, if they're smart, they're going to flock over it. In my opinion, the best help to a team, is a commander who knows how to use the scan. It's a silent but deadly type of deal. Scan, zoom then arty based on projected path of red dots.

I think the UAV is extremly useful, and can be a hinderance without it.

I think it a good poll,its hard post a poll as most topics have discussed loads of times.

I have to agree with the semantics of the UAV not being a "weapon" but it's absolutely essential in matches. A good commander will be spot spamming and vocal over Vent with the squad leader(s) and hitting his tab button like a crackhead to see if the other team is delay spawning in on a SL as well, but if you can predict where you need to fire before the target is visible you're giving yourself a great advantage.

UAV accounts for 99% of the hack accusations against talented players in this game in my opinion. it's not wall haxzomfgzorz, It's reading a UAV well. My win/loss ranking can attest to the usefulness of the UAV (By the way, regarding that ratio, I was 2nd world and 1st USA until only 5 people stayed in a server and I was down 10 tickets as MEC at the start twice   )

The UAV is hands down the most useful single device in the game. It doesn't matter where your ass is hiding, or under how many tons of concrete, it can magically see you and upload your location to every enemy's magical eyeball radar.

It's a legalized radar hack -- in other words, extremely powerful.

Certainly, scan+spotting is more covert, but UAV is a must for crowded situations.

it is a fantastic help.

It really annoys me when my friend comes round and tries to play.... and he is looking around him to see who to shoot, when there is a UAV above him telling him there is someone creaping up behind him....

Probably the best help- artillery, supplies, vehicle, doesnt come close. Obviously scan is useful, but not for the players, only for the commander.

I did mean in conjunction with the scan, it's useless with out it!

I don't think the UAV would give away your position as it should always be put over the enemy.

BTW it was supposed to be funny calling it a weapon as it is one of the few things that cannot directly harm a player (bar the collision aspect ) but has still caused me many, many deaths.

Well then your flying skills need some upgrading then.

Yeah the UAV is good but not really a weapon, but it helps a lot to find other people.

I put it as the best weapon due to the fact you get so many more kills a round due to it being there. If you know a guys around the corner u can wait for him 2 just reach the corner then u can jump around and take him from behind
