So yea I just went from p2p to torrents. I downloaded bit torrent and I'm trying to download Smokin' Aces, the movie. The only problem is, it's only downloading at 7 k/bs. I assume that is slow as hell, since torrents are supposed to be all bad ass and shit.

What I want to know is, how do I make it download faster. I have no idea what kind of router I have and the FAQ section under help in Bittorrent was no help at all to me.

Rewards will be in karma and possibly real-life karma.

Thanks in advance.

Torrents are pretty much p2p... The more people (Seeders) that are on, the faster the D/L rate. I usually get about ~100KBs.

Ok listen, youll need to open a port for your torrent program to access the internet through, so you'll want to find out what router you have (look at it) then go to portforward.com and read the instructions on how to open a port for your torrent program.
I suggest Utorrent for a torrent program, its simple and bad-ass. Also remember, your upload and download speed are proportional, so if your uploading at 80kbps but only downloading at 10kbps then you need to set a limit to your upload speed using your torrent program. this is usually an easy setting.

Although speed is determined by the ammount of seeders (people who give/upload info) and leechers (people who are downloading) you should try to look for torrents with lots of seeders

Ill help you out with anything else more specific just ask

nobody can help you without your router info. look at the box real careful like, and see what it says.

get azeurus or utorrent. they're better than the bittorrent client.

Where can I find my router info on my computer... w/o opening it up or what not, as I don't feel like doing that right now and have no idea what a router looks like.

System information?

Also, to block your ip address for added security (because i know how people new to torrents can get warez-happy) i recommend PeerGuardian 2
its free

its the little box with the cable/dsl line going into it. you cant figure it out via pc unless you're wireless.

ps: if you're not using a wireless box, get one, and leave it open. that way, if by some chance you get slapped with an RIAA lawsuit, you can just say "it wasn't me, somebody came and downloaded thru my open wireless network!"

allright, so i got to the part where it says to put in my password. I put in admin and password, yet it does not work. So do I have the wrong IP?

the username/pw prompt box just keeps reappearing, it doesnt tell me i put in the wrong password or username.

try:
username: admin
password: admin

If not, the there should be a little button on the back of your router that you may need a pen to press, this is to reset it. you may need to reset it if the default username/pass dont work.
It would be impossible to type in the wrong ip, theres only 1 menu and 1 ip.

You must not have the right defaults then. try common stuff like admin/pass ect ill look but i may not find.
i still suggest resetting it and trying the defaults. keep in mind after a reset it may take a few mins for the internet to work.

Whoa just read your other post.
try 192.168.0.1
.1.1
.1.0
.0.0

those 3 are also possibilities for the end '192.168.#.#'

Okay same here, if you decide to reset your router, and have it hooked up correctly, you may get a page telling you something about Verizon denying you internet access blah blah blah, it should go away after a max of about a half hour. No need to call there crappy tech support.

Still possible in the U. S.? Here in Germany you will get sued anyway. Not as the main *cough* fraud, but for aiding an illegal activity.
