One thing to keep in mind: the upcoming 1.20 patch for BF2142 will include optimization of titan mode.  Having played it myself, I have noticed significantly reduced lag, along with the various glitches fixed; they're nailing every little tweak down a lot faster than in BF2, to be honest (ugh...christ...patching for that was horrendous).

Why do so many people think the Pilum is more powerful? It does exactly the same damage.

You will definitly spend enough hours playing it to make it worth the money.
And dont forget the Conquest mod which is much better and completely lag free.

Just got done playing it for about 2 hours and it is a very nice change from BF2. I kinda hate that it is "free unlock weekend" because I'v done both engineer and support and assult on a few maps and I'm haveing trouble figureing out what path I should unlock first.
Yes, Pilum does pwn, but I am also likeing support's drone and shield for titan defence (got around 25 kills in one round defending).

Now I just gota convince my friends to get it

Ignore these fools for the rest of you.  They are the karkand spammers that play the same goddamn map hundreds of hours in BF2 who truly are pathetic and will cling to it until the day EA stops supporting BF2...because they love stroking their e-penis (scores).

Edit: for those of you who played Baldurs' Gate 2, you'll get the first joke.

It is you who are licking EA e-penis, BF2142 came out with full of glitches and still there are plenty of them in BETA 1.2.

You just got scruwed again, just like the BF2 they never really fixedthat game either.
the only problem there is no other who has this gameplay style, so I'm stuck with the game.

just 5 monthes and then FFOW will be out and I know for sure I will never touch BF2 again only bf1942 and vietnam, those games where not nerfed to the shit

No, I believe DICE have cleaned up their act significantly.  Mind you, BF2 was a big undertaking, and there were bound to be glitches/bugs/exploits, since they did internal beta testing only if I remember correctly.  Since then, DICE have refined their patching process to include closed/open beta testing, and it has helped improve gameplay tremendously.

Bottom line: #BF2 glitches > #BF2142 glitches.  I've played both for lengthy periods, so don't talk smack if you don't have any flak to throw at me.

And please explain to me how I am licking EA's penis, I've played the Beta 1.2, and I'm convinced they've fixed many things; optimization of titan mode made a tremendous impact, even on a relatively full server.  2142 is not nerfed, either--its about balance, you ignorant bafoon, which they've stated numerous times ('making of' interview, as soon as I find something on youtube).  Of course, I've found many ways to get out of even the most rediculous of bad positions with a little planning.

Notice Krysiss never responds to the posts that tell him that DICE does the coding, not EA.

If the game looks fun to you and if you have a friend with 2142, try playing a bit with your friend's copy (if he/she lets you) and decide whether you would want it or not.

I'v been thinking about getting 2142 for the past week. I played the beta and the demo and really enjoyed titan mode along with the hover tank. I just have a few questions before I make up my mind.

1. How is the lag? When I was playing the beta, full servers with a ping around 100ms would lag like crazy, mainly when running around defending the titan. Has this been fixed or decreased?

2. I play Anti-Tank on BF2. Durning the beta I worked up to the AT unlock and I noticed that it really kinda sucked. The pullet moved too slow to be real effective, only advantage I could see with useing it was no lock on warning. Has this been improved?

That's all I can think of now. Thanks for the responces,

I personally dislike the SMG they give the engineer. In BF2 I could tear up almost anyone with the MP5. However in BF2142 it blows chunks when it comes to medium and long range. Within 10 metres no problem but outside that it seems like the bullets take a 90 degree angle from where they were fired from.

Since there is no warning for the target when you fire the Pilum, you hit the target more often, instead of having the target raising its shields.

It took me one month to get to Brig General. The stats are way diffrent in this game. I got bored with it easily, but it is easy to get unlocks if you work towards certain goals. Basically the badges, ribbons, and pins are your best friend. Many can be awarded numerous times. Titan mode is the easiest way to get high BRS, if you are good on defense.

The game is optimized a little better then bf2 acctually, but certain aspects are a bit more taxing on your PC... though most of that is simply in titan mode. If you have one gig of ram or less, and a slow processor, titan will run like extra crap for you. But theres certain areas you can camp, get lots of kills, and mad points.

Yeah. The Engie SMG will totally ravage an enemy or a friendly at close range. Whereas 50 or so metres away and you can hardly hit a barn.
Maybe improve the accuracy a little? Or remove the opposite unlock to the Pilum (I forgot what it's called) and replace it with a better SMG?

The problem with the pilum is that it is designed specifically to decimate the soft spots of enemy armor.  In a full-on frontal assault, the standard rocket launcher does a little more damage.  However, hit an enemy in the flank, or better yet their rear, you're talking some serious damage.  For instance:

APC
Pilum flank/rear shot: 55 damage (65 if you hit that tiny hitbox where the vent is on the rear)
Pilum frontal shot: 20 (25?) damage
Rocket round flank/rear: 45 damage (55 again for that small angled vent on the rear bottom)
Rocket frontal shot: 25 damage

The difference, my friends, between a two shot instant-kill w/pilum, and giving the pilot a few seconds to bail if you nail him with two rockets.

In my experience, the pilum makes the engineer extremely aggressive.  You'll either kill your target in a spectacular manner where everyone inside it dies, or be flattened when your first shot misses because it has no guidance package.  I typically prefer the pilum, but in the case of extreme range shots where I absolutely can't afford to miss, I'll go with rockets.  Plus, rockets are better for infantry sniping (lol)

simple question, is northen strike a stand alone game, or can you play 2142 maps, and then northen stike maps from the same server, EG MAPS- VERDUN, BERLIN, NOTHEN STRIKE, SUEZ CANAL, in that order, or is it like euro forces, and cant mix the maps

its a great game, really balanced, great, great infantry combat...especially on Cerbere Landing and Camp Gibraltar.  Don't believe all the hype about the pilum.  Its a good gun, but not the wunderkind that everyone makes it out to be.  The regular anti-tank rockets take out a tank in 1 shot from the rear too, plus they are better at long distance because you can guide them.  Someone said that the pilum was great because they took out a gunship with one shot and got 2 insta kills.  Well I used the SAAW and took out a transport for 5 insta-kills....

A gun is a gun is a gun is a gun.  They've all got their strong points.

Lag is bad on Titan, but everything else is fine.

my fps 40-70 (dips to 20-something on titan servers in heavy areas)

Okay, I will admit that the pilum absolutely sucks donkey balls when it comes to killing infantry. I have only managed it a half dozen times.  However, the pilum also loads a half second faster (and that half second can make a LOT of difference).  Also, for long range shots, you do not have to sit there aiming at your target.  Just line up, aim, shoot and run your butt off.  Especially nice when terrorizing the titan guns.  Or when playing pop-goes-the-weasel with a tank or apc.

monky Coders rofl more like monkey typer. Someone  always comes into a 2142 topic and says i wont buy it because EA ETC ETC,  fair enough thats you right BUT WE DONT CARE and dont come in to topics about 2142 if you dont like the game simple ffs.

1. The lag issue is still there on titans but conquest is lag free for the most part but titan mode has got better.

2. pilums good but i did think the idea was to make the bullet of the pilum faster than the standard rockets so i was bit confussed when i first used it to find it so slow but its much better than rockets:

A) Less blantant than the bigger blue rockets.

B) Tanks go down like nothing you've seen before when hit from behind especially.

C) Battle walkers are tricky hit them in the back they damage quite nicely and the legs but because of bobbing and speed of you projectile sometimes they only have to move a bit for you to miss completely.

What?  I find the engi smg awesome at long range 50+ meters.  Short bursts and I always get the job done.  Also, I'd hate to see them take away the SAAW.  Its a great unlock for sniping gunships (but they have to fix it so that it locks on to transports more consistently).
