About a month or two ago, I was looking at stuff inside my P.C., you know, just seeing what's up.  I decided to feel the RAM heat sinks I installed on my 1GB sticks of RAM a couple months back.  It was a little bit warm, not ridiculously hot, then I realize that the screen on my computer had froze up, and I restarted it.  I don't know/remember why, but I think I touched it again and it did the same thing, lol.  I don't remember which one I touched.  It started lagging a lot around the same time.  I also installed a new 400W PSU (replaced a 250W) around that time in preparation for the new video card.  One day, i'm just watching T.V. 2 days after I ordered the video card, and my brother starts bothering me about reinstalling Windows so it stops lagging, so I give in and we install it, then we can't get the computer to start up right after we reinstall it, so we reinstall it 3 more times during the course of the day to no avail, I pretty much don't do anything for 2 days and the video cad comes from Newegg (It took forever because they shipped it from fucking California across the fucking side of the country rather than New Jersey which is like 3 hours away like they normally do) then I tell my dad like 2 days later, who used to build computers around 10 years ago and he reminds me that the last time I reinstalled Windows, I installed Linux on it first to clean out the hard drive, I tried that the day after and then install Windows and it works.  Before installing the drivers for my Radeon 9600, I decided to just take it out and replace it with my new Radeon X1650PRO, installed the drivers.  Tried BF2 and BFV and they still lag like hell.  The only game I can play without lagging is BF1942 and that still chops a little bit when ships sink, which doesn't seem to happen as much on my grandma's computer (1.4GHz Pentium Type 13, 504MB of RAM, and Intel Integrated graphics which somehow plays pretty well on default high video settings with 40 players on a Midway server).  So what is my problem.

Sorry about all the pointless babbling but I have nothing better to do for an hour and a half in my study hall class.

Have you tried running memtest86 on it? Also, is your paging file set to the correct size?

Maybe you need to install your memory drivers?(Got a guy with that once )

Sounds like at least one of the sticks is going bad, pull one out and run Memtest86, and then do the same for the other.

use cpuz to check.

if it fried i don't think it should be able to send any information to the computer that it's there and therefore it shouldn't show up.

That can be a bit of a pain to do.  My grades aren't that great so i'm only allowed on the computer on certain days.  My parents put a log-in so I can't even log into MY OWN GOD DAMN COMPUTER THAT I SPENT $200+ UPGRADING.  Now, back to business, how do I install new drivers for memory?

It's still acknowledged as being 2GB in CPU-Z.

It's 2x1GB sticks actually.

It's regular (not so regular anymore it seems) DDR memory

Mobo= Asus P4B266LA
CPU= 2.2GHz Pentium 4

It's an OEM that I upgraded.

-Never touch anything inside your damn computer without turning it off first. Actually, don't touch anything inside your computer ever if you don't know what you're doing, unless you want to throw that $200 upgrade down the drain.

-There is a really good chance you did screw up your RAM, as you were screwing with it while the computer is running and probably without an anti-static strap. At least make sure your RAM is still seated correctly.

-Reinstalling Windows won't do shit to help sort out your "lag", all it does it basically clear up your hard drive so some aspects of your OS will load faster. It won't magically make your games run faster.

-Newegg ships various different parts from different sites around the country, they don't have every part at every site. Be patient, and if you can't do that order better shipping.

-Install video drivers.

-Never go into your computer again without supervision from your dad for a while until you seriously know what you're doing.

Edit: And lastly learn to edit your posts instead of making three in a row, even if they were all on slightly different subjects.

I learned my lesson on touching shit inside the computer.  Can't let my dad watch me all the time or i'll never get anything done, lol.

I'll have to tell my brother that so he doesn't bitch at me every month to reinstall Windows, he does it to get rid of possible spyware.

Already installed video drivers, they're Catalyst 7.2 drivers.

A reformat would get rid of mal-ware, but some good AV would be better.

So what are you asking? You probably have the in-game settings on too high.

I sense that you fucked up your RAM with static when you touched it

It shouldn't be too high.  I play BF2 on Medium and it still lags, I play BFV on highest at 1024x768@60Hz and that lags.

See, the thing is, it doesn't lag immediately for both games, it lags after about a minute or two.  The longer I stay the more it lags.

First, I highly doubt it's "lag". There is no connection problem between you and the server, dropped packets, etc. Performance drop, probably.

What kind of frame-rate do you get in-game?

Please try and use paragraphs next time.

Try pulling out the different sticks, playing with one in at a time. You will probably need to lower your graphics settings for the 1Gb stick to cope on its own.

And there is no such thing as memory drivers- he was joking.

Also try the FAQ that is linked in my sig... it is very detailed and may help.

Nevermind, looks like I fixed it, I happened to re-discover this for myself.  I decided to try the Ewido spyware remover he described.  That thing nuked the spyware right off the computer, it's amazing.  I don't have to wait a while anymore when the loading hits 62%in BF2, it just stay there for 2-3 seconds and goes right into progress again.
