...first off, I think it's weird that all of those console names rhyme.

Second, my last couple paychecks have been a bit bigger than what I was expecting, and naturally, instead of saving this extra money, I'd rather spend it.   Now, I've grown sick of BF2, I'm growing sick of 2142, and I really miss the days of when I was younger and playing console games.  So I've decided to buy a console system.

However, I don't know which to buy.  I've played XBox360 and I must say, it is a really great system.  The sports games (NHL07, Fight Night, FIFA) on it are incredible, as is Dead Rising, and as should be Halo 3.  Wii is also a TON of fun, but it seems it's only fun when you're playing it with other people, and honestly, I don't have people over to my place just so we can sit and play video games.  I haven't played PS3 and I really haven't even heard anything good about it, but it's still in the running.

Anyway, what's your opinion on the matter?  Which is the best?  Which has the best games?  Which is the most fun?  Which is the best value?  Which has the best replay value?  Which has the most staying power?  Which, in every category I've named, is the overall best console?

PS3...

Wii's great, but you gotta have friends over
360 - Ok... No real good system specific games.... Most of the games for the 360 are getting ported to PC.

Don't get a PS3 yet, it hasn't had time to come into its own.

I would say if you want a gimmicky system with a more casual style, go Wii, otherwise, go 360.

If you miss the days when you played old games, go for the Wii. There are classic old games to buy on the virtual console and the number is growing (I got Bomberman '93 recently : still fun). There are not too much games right now, but you can have fun with Zelda and stuff (just avoid FarCry, it's ugly and it sucks).

The X360 seems alright, too, but I'm not too much into that.
PS3 is a tech monster, but it's too expensive for what it is, but I can't tell because it's not out yet in Europe. I won't buy it soon anyway.

The best choice would be the Wii. Cheap, fun with good games.

Yeah, I didn't want to say anything in the OP in case it might sway opinions, but I'm definitely more into sports and action games.

NHL07 and Fight Night are incredible on the 360.  I'm not even a boxing fan, but Fight Night is one of the better games I've played in quite some time.  Also, I haven't played it yet, but I've heard nothing but praise about Dead Rising.  Finally, with that whole Halo3 thing coming out this year, I know I'll end up wanting a 360 anyway...

So as of now, I'm leaning toward the 360.

I'd have to say the Wii. 360 is great but the Wii is a little nicer on the pocketbook and is a ton of fun, even alone (Who doesn't play with their Wii alone? ...sorry, couldn't resist). Zelda was an amazing game, and requires no friends to play, same with many of the shooters... well, all three of them. The 360 might offer up a more traditional console experience, but I would go with the Wii; it's fun, has a lot of replay value, and some very addicting games.

I don't even consider the PS3 an option.

360. Try to find one of the new 65nm machines. New hardware, runs cooler. I love mine.

Ok, look at the 3 systems this way:

Wii: A great system for friends, some great games for single player but currently its a partyhouse system (which is just fine for me!). It has graphics equal to the original xbox but also has an already large game library with its hundred or so classic games (N64 and back) and gamecube compatibility.

PS3: Really should be marketed as a Blu-Ray player that can play games. Graphics in some games are WORSE then in their 360 counterparts but in most cases is equal to the 360. Controllers do not have rumble, instead they have a PC six-axis that failed to take off years ago. Practically ZERO games currently worth playing on it (with resistance being the exception) and nearly all of the exciting future games are of stale franchises *cough* Metal Gear Solid *cough*. Backwards compatibility probably being cut from future versions of system to bring down price. Currently not on my list of things to buy but in a year that may change.

360: Has a large library of games with a few notables including Gears of War, Dead Rising, Test Drive: Unlimited and Crackdown. Cheapest of the power consoles at around $200 less then the pro version of the PS3. System must be upgraded though for HD DVD support and wireless internet access. Has Xbox Live.

Me, I'm a Wii60 guy. I love strong single player games and great online multiplayer action which the 360 provides and I also love great party fun which the Wii provides. Also my PC and Ps2 provide everything else (Guitar Hero and those damn Purty PC games)

woooo. Wii FTW.

and anyway, you all know smash bros. brawl is gonna be the funnest game ever

It has graphics equal to the original xbox
It really irritates me when people use this mentality to bag the wii. i know the person who wrote it wasnt meaning it in a bad way.

Look at the original ps2 games, and then look at FFXII, graphics got 20x better while the system remained the same. The wii's graphics for now are equal to xbox's last generation games (look at trailers for SSBB if you dont believe me) so in 2-3 years time the wii's graphics wont be so far off 360's first generation games' graphics.

I should have said the system's power is equal to the original Xbox. No doubt games will look better as time goes on.

I chose the PS3, only because everyone loves to hate it. I have one, and I've played my friend's 360 quite extensively, and i can honestly tell you, you will be unable to tell the two apart. It comes down to personal preference.

This is the way i see it:

Wii: Great for just getting into a quick game, and you've got all of Nintento's amazing older games to choose from as well (Ocarina of time, anyone? <3). From what the lineup looks like, they've got most games geared toward the younger crowd, with a few mature titles. Innovative controller.

360: Beautiful graphics and good hardware. Decent selection of games. Naturally there are exclusives, such as HALO and GOW. Needs to be upgraded to be comparable to the PS3, when talking about features. Pay for network play is a bit of a negative.

PS3: Most powerful system. Most expensive as well, and includes a blu ray player. Has it's own exclusives, such as Gran Turismo series, Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy, etc. Free network play. Weak library right now, but should improve nicely.

To be honest, if you want a power system, pick it based on what games you'd rather be playing. I personally could give a rat's ass about Halo and GOW, and many of the other popular titles on the 360. I chose the PS3 primarily based on it's game selection, which is a admitingly weak right now, but should be improving shortly.

Well, after a lot of thinking I am pretty sure that I am not buying a console. A console can just do one thing and the games are incredible expensive.

Hmm TMo, quite the predicament huh?

XBox 360: Arguably the favorite of the two high-end consoles right now (Wii has its own merits, but in terms of raw power the 360 has more fans than the PS3). Lots of great games available. XBox LIVE is reportedly good. It costs a bit each year, but in return you get stable servers. It seems to lack a bit in the RPG department. Just note, that if you want to have HD media capabilities you'll need to buy the HD DVD addon, which is $200 and thus boosts the price of the 360 to that of a basic PS3. But if you don't care for HD DVD, it's cheaper. Games are stunning if you've got a TV capable of 1080p, 1080i, or 720p. With HDMI cables, naturally.

Wii: It's got chic styling like a Mac. The games are innovative. But they're overall a bit "kiddy", not that that's a bad thing. Twilight Princess is fun, and the Wii Sports and Wiimote are cool too. It's also dirt cheap. If you're into the eye candy as well as gameplay though, this might disappoint. Graphics aren't all that stunning, and I think the Wii only goes up to 480p; EDTV. Graphics don't make the game, but they sure can make a great game a fantastic game.

Playstation 3: The unloved mongrel of the bunch. First off, it's a powerful piece of machinery. That's one reason for the high price. It also has a blu-ray player, as its games are blu-ray. The blu-ray player that Sony is making costs $600. For that price, you can get a player AND a game console. The PS Network is reportedly rather lame, not a lot of features. There are rumors out and about that a service called Playstation Home will be made, similar to that of the Wii's Miis. You get a room, which as you complete things in games gets filled with decorations and furniture relating to the game. People can visit your room, and you can chat. The games out aren't all that stunning. Virtua Fighter 5, flOw, MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man are the favorites among fans. Some very nice looking games in the PS3's future: Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Gran Turismo 5 (<3<3<3), EA Skate (more realistic than Tony Hawk, IGN applauds it so far from what they got to test), Rainbow 6 Vegas, Tekken 6, Grand Theft Auto IV (it's on 360 too though), Final Fantasy XIII, Ratchet and Clank, and BF Bad Company. Hardly a shabby lineup of games in the future.

Alright, if my PS3 thing seemed longer... that's cause I might be getting one. I've done lots of research. Frankly, it's a big investment, but if you can satiate yourself with the current games (I've also got Gran Turismo 4, wonderful game) for a bit you'll be rewarded with all those class games I listed for the PS3.

Happy console hunting!

edit: Just another plug for the PS3 - The 360 didn't have the greatest games at release and it took a few months for it to get its act together. And now look at it. The PS3 will likely follow suit, given the current lineup of games coming out.
