(closest price comparison I could get).

Which one would be the better choice for just ultimate performance?  I read the, ooo noes get the dx10 card since november (infact I say it to) but lookin at the specs, the ati card looks quicker to me :S  Also I dont see dx10 cards ONLY for playing games any time soon................

Slightly different question, how are the lower end 8 series cards to hold up against high end 7 series cards? 8600GT vs. 7900GT for example.

"As promised, we will provide you some glimpse on the performance of the upcoming GeForce 8600 GTS and 8600 GT graphics cards. On a Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor, GeForce 8600 GTS scored a pretty impressive 5,7xx pts in 3DMark06 which is slightly faster than the 7950GT while 8600 GT churned out 4,7xx pts in 3DMark06 overshadowing a 7900GS. It seems that a 128-bit memory interface is not stopping 8600 series from churning out some nice performance."

Just had a look on nVidia.com and the 8800GTX is both faster than 1 7950GX2 AND dual 7900GTX in SLi mode.
Didnt say anything about the 800GTS tho, but I would assume that 1 8800GTS would be the equal of either 1 7950GX2 or dual 7900GTX in SLi mode......

Your all wrong. The ATi X550 is better than the 8800. at low and high res!
