What is the top of the line, best quality, rock your socks off headset/mic, on the market today for under $200? I haven't the slightest clue where to start looking. Can someone suggest a few sets for me?
I have had two nice sets. These are on the low end it sounds for your budget.

This is what I am using now.

The Turtle Beach ones were a little cheaper and they sound better than the current (Razer) set I have now. They were also a bit heavier though.

Sennheiser series, I use the PC166 and 161 nowadays.
Speedlink Medusa USB series It´s around 80 € and the USB series, not the home- or lan edition, has build in sennheiser speakers, afaik.
If you dont have an X-FI soundcards, I suggest the cheaper Medusa, although you have to tweak the settings for it before it sounds really good.

Definitely the worst headset I've ever owned (for about 13 hours)._NL_Lt.EngineerFox wrote:

Go for Sennheiser, since you've got loads of cash as it seems
Oh, and with the remaining ~100$ go for a new sound card also (If you haven't already got one that's worth more than that ^^)

Fucking love these. As many reviews say they are fragile, but I take good care of my shit and don't bang it around everywhere. Excellent sound quality, very comfortable, the virtual 7.1 usb thing is nice, mic works fine if you attach it to the cord and aim it at your face, and if you aren't actually playing anything the headset is pretty open so you can hear as well with them on as not.
