I've ran into trouble on my pc. i have accidentally deleted some win xp files, so now when i turn my comp on it goes to the asus page then just restarts automatically. it never actually gets onto the windows xp log in page. i was wondering if there is anyway i could reformat my hard drive through the bios menu thing.

my mobo is a ASUS P5N SLI, if that's any help.

Ty in advance

p.s I'm on the shitty downstairs family comp.

to reformat you are going to need the win xp cd
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

you "accidently deleted some XP files"?

............ hummm..................

Yeah, to reformat the HD you will need to get your XP disk (with license key).

You will then need to go into the BIOS and set the boot order so that Disk is before HD.

Next stick the XP disk in.... boot from CD, next next next, finish.

You can do a Win XP repair if you have the cd. It will fix your installation without reformatting and losing everything on your drive. You'll have to reinstall the service packs afterwards, but your machine will be safe.

You don't need to log in. Change your boot order, as titch said, then you'll boot into the XP setup app on the CD. Choose the repair option and you'll be good to go.

ok
Step 1: insert your XP Disk into your drive

Step 2: go into your BIOS

Step 3: In advanced features, look for Disk Boot/ or Boot something along those lines

Step 4: change boot sequence so that your Disk Drive is the 1st Prioroty and HD 2nd

Step 5: save changes and exit

Step 6: windows will boot from cd it will ask you to press any key do boot from cd

Step 7: press any key, allow cd to load

Step 8: When windows has loaded press the following keys

Step 9: Return (Enter), F8, Return (Enter)

Step 10: Delete current partition, and create a new one

Step 11: format using NTFS file system

Step 12: allow XP to install

Step 13: follow XP installation instructions
basically that will install XP again

you will loose everything on your comp but its not like its not recoverable

XP setup (step 13) is piss its just setting up the keyboard layout and your CD key and stuff

there ya go new XP instalation

Dont go deleting any files inside the WINDOWS folder now plz

If you wish to try to repair your current install instead of formatting be sure to use the 2nd repair option shown after the setup program searches for previous XP installs.  This works very well in getting a defective install up and running.
