I need a new computer, it's slow and I run BF2 at the lowest possible settings.  It's pathetic.

But I don't want to get a new computer until the ATI R600 comes out.  I'm all about the DX10 compatible cards and I just don't like the fact that the nVidia 8800 series was rushed out the door in time for the Vista launch.  Should be buggy without enough QA development...  Correct me if I'm wrong with this statement.

But in any case, the hard drive died about two years ago and we replaced it with a new 250 gig HD.

But in the last week it's been having issues.  When I turn the thing on sometimes (maybe 25% of the time) it hangs up after the motherboard boot-up.  I let it sit there a minute and then press the reset button.  Then it boots up fine and there is no problems.  Tonight I'm going to run a ScanDisk and a Defrag, but I don't think it's a problem with the hard drive seeing as I replaced it two years ago.

Any ideas on what the problem is?

When was the last time you did a complete reformat and reinstall? Over time so much junk and whatnot can slow things down noticeably. I like to do a full format and reinstall on my drives about every 6 months to keep everything running as smooth as possible.

If it's after your post I would lean towards a problem with your OS. I would first try a system restore back to a point before your issues. That's where you should start at least.
