I'm not sure about my dad's budget, but I know he wants a good desktop computer.  He wants a 19" monitor so I picked this one out: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6824009091

I want to get him the best computer for the money, especially since he enjoys gaming too.  I don't want any lower than 2GB of ram and was looking at this
G.SKILL: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6820231114
and this
Corsair: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6820145590

I prefer ATI over nVidia and want to get a good card, and was thinking 320mb at the lowest, but I will go nVidia if you guys recommend it.  We've already got the HD's, but still need everything else.  I came here since I know you guys really know your stuff. Thanks in advance.

Umm....I heard that Corsair lately have quality problems.

For the graphic card, go for the Nvidia 8800GTS 320mb version.

I've used both ATi and Nvidia, I've experienced good and bad things about them.

I'd go for Crucial RAM in preference to Corsair or G.Skill.

Edit: also, when you say "everything else" - are the HDDs the only thing you've got - no mainboard, no case, no nothing? What spec HDDs?

A sentiment that should be applied to just about all hardware - it all works fantastically for some people and horribly for others. It's one of the joys of PC ownership...

I'm definitely going to consider that BenQ monitor, and the RAM.  Thanks for the links.

The hard drives we're just going to pull from the current computer and reformat them since they're still running well, and that's all we'll be taking from that computer besides the keyboard and mouse.

You should check at www.pricegrabber.com for competitive prices.  I am in the process of upgradeing my PC and found that I could save $32.00 by looking at PriceGrabber as compared to 100% newegg.com.

I think I was planning on assembling it through NewEgg's wishlist and then shop around for the best prices, and once I have the overall thing look for savings and possible upgrades.

you must have forgotten about shipping and state tax on most companies on price grabber.

All right then go with ddr2 533 ram for the 1:1 ratio.(Believe me it is worth it, Unless your getting the e4300 then get ddr2 400 or 800)
