Today I got 2 x 1GB sticks of Geil RAM (5-5-5-15, DDR2 800), put them in my machine, and ran 3Dmark06. My specs are:

Core 2 duo E6400 @ 2.13GHz
Asus P5N32-E SLI
Powercolor X1900XT 512mb (stock speeds)
Afore mentioned Geil RAM

At 1280 x 1024 I got 5696 points. The problem is, with only 512mb of RAM, I got 5671. Shouldn't increasing the memory four-fold add more then just 25 points?

I also ran 3Dmark01 and got 30851 points, compared with 29174 points with the 512MB stick. An increase of 1700 sounds large, but when compared with the 1800 point increase I got by getting a second 512mb stick of RAM with my old skt939/DDR1 machine (going from 512MB to 1GB), it doesn't sound right.

Is there something wrong with my machine, or doesn't RAM really effect 3Dmark scores and performance increases only show up in-game? Because at the moment, one would think that by going from 512MB of DDR533 to 2GB of dual channeled DDR800, there would be some kind of major change in my scores.

Help plzkthnxbai.

They are low. Your memory would help your score on the CPU test. Monitor your cpu performance in task manager while it runs. Open Task manager before you run through 3dm 06. When it's done go back and check the graph. Also watch your temps. A hot GPU can hinder performance.

I had the task manager open, and between the tests, I saw that it was spiking up and down between the third and fourth boxes on the graph.
I also got a temp moniter for the X1900, and it was about 62C on idle and it went up to 89C during the "return to proxycon" test in 3Dmark 06. I know these kinds of cards get hot, but 62C idle sounds pretty toasty.....

They do get hot thus hurting your performance under load. I had a x1900 xtx before, I took it out and put it in my other machine and used a 7950 in it's place for that very reason (Heat). http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=45432 Initially my 1900 outperformed the 7950 but I soon saw a steep drop. I had my 06 score posted with similar specs to yours but I can't find the link or login. This was my last run   http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=909725 but I don't think that's going to help you compare.

Since you have recently installed new memory I would recommend running memtest on it. I always do this when I put some in. http://www.majorgeeks.com/MemTest_d350.html

Your score should be much higher. You will need to start narrowing your possible hardware issues down to find the problem. Your specs are above mid level and you should see more than 5696.

Whoa. Shit.

I think I found the problem. The program I got to read the GPU temps also displays general information about the card. It says the core/memory speeds are set to 499.50/594 mhz, but isn't the stock speeds of the 512MB Powercolor X1900XT 625/725?
Is there something I'm missing here? Does the card automatically downclock itself is there is no graphics-intensive program running, or did some asshat underclock my card?

Also, I ran memtest for a bit over an hour, and it came up fine.

close out all useless processes, defrag and disk cleanup. That will help. Well a 1900 is old now and maybe its hardware conflict between the 2 new trying to work with old. A 8800gts 320mb or 640mb is more suited for your system considering the processor you have.
