I have been wondering if there is any way to switch weapons and "auto-ready" them by simply scrolling as opposed to the default of having to scroll, choose the weapon, and then click on it to ready it. Maybe I'm just missing something. Can anyone confirm if this is possible?

hmm.. the was a setting in CS that was called "fastswitch". Don't know if that exists in BF2. I doubt it. If you want to switch weapons faster, I suggest you use the number keys.
Didn´t try it yet but theoretical you should be able to place certain weapons on the mousewheel up or down motion but then you can´t access the other weapons by MW anymore.
I have my main gun(button #3) on the mouse wheel button. I just use the 123456 for the rest

Yes, I have my numberpad keys set up to be each of my weapons. Still, though, I'd be thrilled if I could just get the roll to switch to the next weapon without having to choose it in the list and confirm... Anyone have any other ideas, please?
I don't think that this is possible but I certainly wish it was. I don't use the mouse wheel for anything in BF2. I just use my number keys.
easiest solution would be a mouse with mutiple buttons. i think im gonna get one with like 4 or 5 buttons.
