I thought it would be good for making videos, but I realized that with all the chatter, hud and kill messages, it looks cluttered up really bad and I can not make a cool, clear video.

Is there a way to lose all this stuff that appears when I record? Pressing alt gets rid of player names and flags. I heard something about using the in-game console for getting rid of hud and other things, anybody know those commands?

Would you be able to play without a hud? i dont think so,
it would be like playing Project reality, but without a minimap, Magazine count and sprint count

Ya I was thinkin before i got into some tank action I would close it....But your right it would be a bitch. Thats why I was thinking I should use battlerecorder... I was doing a search and came across this exerpt:

ingame open the console, type in "demo.recorddemo [demoname]"

When you have finished recording, type "demo.stoprecording"

Exit the game, and navigate to C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Demos\

Copy the files in there, and place them in My Documents\Battelfield 2\Profiles\Default\demos\

Next, go ingame, select Community, then Battlerecorder, and select your demo to watch.

You have to find servers that are running Battle Recorder.

There is a filter for it:

Then after you play in a server with Battle Recorder enabled.
You go to Community from the main menu in BF2, and you can download and play the files:

Then when you are watching the BattleRecorder demos, in BF2, you can use the command to remove hud.

These instructions from Planet Battlefield should tell you all you need about how to use Battle Recorder, including how to set it up on a server, how to control playback with the Q rose, changing playback speeds (2x, 4x,..), etc.

It mentions 'Rendering images to disk' using the 'demo.cmd +r' command which will export the demo as an AVI. Most people just run Fraps while they watch their demo in Battle Recorder, but its your choice.

Ah, and now does anybody have a link to the bf2demoplayer?? And where exactly is the battlerecorder section in BF2? Is it in game, or in settings or where?

I think I'm gonna find a server with battlerecorder, try that console command and see if it gets saved. Right now I do not have a demo's folder. I imagine it'll get created once I make my first video. Then to play it i'll need the Demo Player, or find the battle recorder player section etc...

edit: Trying to locate the BF2 tweakguides. It should ahve a link to bf2 demo player...

I thought the demoplayer was made by the so called "Sir community" so i'd say you can find it somewhere on their site, succes on the bf2demoplayer stuff, i've never used it.

yeah, when you have battlerecorder-files you can check em,
then you have a 3rd-person view of anyone in the server.
(i find 3rd person fragmovie less impressive than 1st-person, just that you know )

Alright, I don't have time now, but ill find a server with BR, and ill record and see what happens. I'd still like to know where I go to view the demo. And what I can use to open it and edit it. I'll get back to you guys on that later.

edit: Correction! Thanks to Lawjik, for posting screen shots, makes it a lot easier lol. I know where to find the videos now.

i dito that, looks good for a knife fight though. fly jet and kill just made a 3rd person vid with some excessive effects. IMO its wank, but maybe you should check that out n see if its what ur looking for

and ill dito THAT
if you wanna make a fragmovie the 3rd person isnt so much of an option imo. But you just choose whatever you want to do and let us know if the battlerecorder stuff worked good or not )

Alright so I found the community tab, I noticed i had a huge list of recorded files I could download. Half of them didn't work, but I downloaded the games I played from a few days ago. It was pretty kick ass watching it, changing players, doing slow-mo I took down a black hawk 3 or 4 times with an M1A2 from long range and it was fun to play it in slow-mo.  One of my tank shells hit right on the rotor! It was pretty tight.

So I guess people use Fraps and record live game footage, <b>as well</b> as record footage from the demo also?

What do you press to get rid of the kill messages and name tags when you watch the demo?

What are good media editors? I heard of a program made by Sony that is good. I got Windows movie maker... Are there any other good ones I can download a trial for? Does Adobe make a movie editor?

Any tips/help or advice is welcome!

We type in random stuff into the console until it does something, then we record it in special internets documents.

Tbh, im not sure how the first person found it, but its just been carried on through person to person.

I found a site that lists things you can type. Its on one of those BF2 Tweak guides. Let me find it for you...

Ah, here we are. The following is page 8 of this guys tweak guide. It shows all the console commands 'discovered so far' so Gene_pool was right. People, apparently, just type things in and find out what does what. Here is the page:
