Ok, first off, mods, don't delete this. All I'm wondering is how to get my connections good to go.

I downloaded utorrent, but when i go to download torrent files, it is really slow. I average like 2kb/s.
I read those guides, but they are way too confusing and I don't understand them.

So can anyone tell me how to get utorrent working so that I can get a faster connection? In lay-mans terms, none of that tech stuff

Thanks.

Kinda, but they are telling me to figure out which port I use, and typee in comand in the Run dialog box thing, and it's so confusing. Is there any easier way to set up my connection, and figure out which port to use?

Do you have a router?

I needed to do some port forwarding crap for mine to work. It's really easy if you know what router you have, if you use one that is.

I have a LinkSys BEFSR41 Router.

http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.php

And that is confusing me. Asking me for my static IP address, and which port I wanna use. It's just confusing.

And on here: http://portforward.com/english/routers/ … rindex.htm

I don't know which router is mine, the v2, or the v3, v4, v5 one.

try that one
edit: remember to uncheck 'randomize port' in the settings when you set your port you want. it doesnt matter what port you use, just write it down, cause youll then tell your router to use that port to allow connections through

Ok, but what port do I need to type in?
Scratch that, so I can use ANY port, any number?
Btw, that's the wrong router, I have a BEFSR41.

ooh. goody. linksys is easy.

in an empty web browser, type

nothing wrote:

192.168.1.1 and in the name/pass box that comes up, type "admin" for the PW.
if you're wired straight to the box, you should be able to enable UPnP. if not, we port forward. if you're lucky, you're going to see an applications and gaming tab in the broswer window we just opened. if not, go to "advanced" and then navigate to "port forward" pick a port. i'll use 76888.

you should see a tabilish thing now. under application, type "utor1"

under start and end, type the port you wish to use.

enable both protocols, and we now get to the trickiest (but still easy) part. on your task bar, find the two PC screens representing your net connection. double click, and in the window that comes up, navigate to the "support" tab. take a look at the last number for your IP, and go back to the web browser. depending on the model, you will either need to type 192.168.1.XXX or just the XXX (if it has the beginning filled for you, you only need the end).
check the enable box. you should be done here now.

now, open up utorrent. go to preferences, then connection. input the port we used for port forwarding, and uncheck the randomized port button. click ok

thats it, we're done!

let me know if you have any problems, and i'll help you out.

I think I got it... lemme try.
How do I know which ports to input under the start and end sections?
I just put start at 0 and end at 65535, since it said that's the limit.

I've seen my uTorrent max out a download at nearly 375 kb/s.  Normally I'm averaging around 115 - 140 kb/s.

That's the most efficient settings I've worked out that gets my download the best.  Also I've heard that uTorrent keeps track of how much you seed things.  You're supposed to give a ratio of 1.5:1 Meaning that when your download finishes, you should seed it as long as possible and that you reach that ratio.  If your download is 100 megabytes, you should seed 150 megabytes.

That port thing is confusing me, I don't know which port to use.
I'm still get like 2kb/s transfer rate.
Ok, now the most I have got was about 34kb/s.

Something is still wrong.

Ok, well I'm downloading this little BF2 stunt video, and it's going at about 160kb/s, but thats because it has about 30,000 seeders. How can I get a full game download with that many seeders?

you should try bitcomet its much more user friendly with descent download times. when downloading make sure there are more seeders than leechers any your guaranteed to have good downloading speeds. Are you downloading games? If thats the case its usually that lowor some lucky cases of over 100kb\s

Well, i guess this torrents stuff isn't a good as it's cracked up to be. I think I'll just unistall UTorrent and buy the games myself.

BitTorrent is fine, you're just having bad luck lol. If your ports are forwarded correctly, then the only issue is your internet or the torrent itself.
