EA forums are alive again, last official post was 9am, stating that the problem is partially resolved (but I think they said that yesterday) and they won't know more until after the maintenence period, which should be any moment now I guess.

I've heard varying stories, but they all seem to revolve around Gamespy, they manage the stats system/database, if you can't connect to that system you can't play and a server can't start. The problem seems to be connectivity, ie some people/countries can connect to the system, others can't. Whether the problem is with their network or with a node or two on the interweb that has gone awol I don't know, but it seems like it must be something not directly in their control or it would have been fixed by now. Of course if this is the case you would expect them to have made this as an excuse by now.

do you think the server is just refusing certain states or if it is just straight up going hay wire. i mean for the last hour i have been on teamspeak with my clan listening to them play. so i am just wondering.

I highly doubt that.
Yesterday two of my friends were able to play (including correct stats logging) BF2 at a LAN gaming club which is not more than 1 km away from my house and uses the same ISP as I do.

Edit:
To me it seems more like a data loss problem independent of location and PID. I.e. accounts stored on a crashd HDD won't work, others will work fine.

I think it's just blind luck if you can connect or not based on your location/isp and possibly even your account. I connected yesterday after they announced the system was working, after a couple of rounds there was a mass disconnection, I was left and almost everyone else was unranked or private and they were defnitely new because they had no idea how to play and were asking stupid questions.

The point would be, even if you can connect, depending on your location you'll struggle to find a server with players that are any good and your stats may still not be recorded, so until it is fixed you're probably not missing an awful lot.

well like i said i have been listening to my clan for the last hour. they are laying n the bs server. and it sounds like they have there stats and are playing good players.

Well tbh what you just described is a connectivity issue, you can't connect, others can. I can't explain why people on the same isp experience different problems, perhaps it's a DNS issue, perhaps they were able to sneak on when there was a possibility to login (once you're on you can play ok for a while, although the menu is very slow), perhaps you are connected to a different part of your isp (I have experienced this when I was an older user than other people I knew). It has been stated that location does come into play, certain eurpoean countries were able to connect, others aren't, if it was a case of PID's then there would be a pretty equal distribution of people who could and couldn't connect, afaik almost noone in the UK can connect.

How frustrating! One minute Im OK to play then the next I cant log back in!
I managed to get into a server earlier on but it was a very quiet game with an ace chopper flyer so I was getting killed left right and centre! Disconnected from that game and then the server list went blank so I couldnt join a different server! Grrrrrr!

I got 4 kids at home for easter hols and they are happy playing with lego..... I WANNA PLAY!!! lol

This site hasn't worked for me until they announced on Monday that the problem was fixed, it worked then and I was able to login straight away. This is another reason that I think its connectivity, this website has nothing to do with PID's, it just accesses the gamespy database and retrives stats info, without that connect it doesn't work. It's wierd if someone in the UK can access it, maybe they should force refresh or try to use the stats features to make sure its working?
