hey guys, well, I am running more often.

now, on my treadmill I can run a mile in about 6 minutes.

There is a track in park in my city and it is 4 miles but its not all straight, there are hills.

Would I get a better work out on that by running outside or by running on a treadmill?

Which would be harder?

Unless your treadmill can do inclines and all that jazz, go for the running track - run it twice maybe. The fresh air and sunshine will go nicely with the excercise.

Running outside is probably better for you.

Fresh air,sunshine...It's all good.

I got lazy and bought my own treadmill so now i can run and watch TV at the same time.

thanks

Before I ran, I only did weight training and I started to bulk up more and more.
Now, I actually have more energy, doing cardio exercise is a must for your longevity.

i think running on a treadmill is way easier. The motor does a lot of the work for you, you just have to keep up with it.

Um, well if your a hermit with a treadmill u can just open a window and put a fan near it so its JUST like your runnin outside, and maybe you can get a big screen tv with helmet footage of a guy runnin through the woods on a crisp clear day, doesn't that sound lovely. Maybe you can get a stuffed dog on a leash and have it by the side of your treadmill, so when you run its like your running with Sparky! How fun! Don't forget to wave to the neigbors lmao.

I run at night. Its cooler then.

edit: I can't spell maybe lol.

You actually exert more energy running outside vs. a treadmill. Like smtt686 said the treadmill does most of the work for you.

Running outside is definitely much better for you. Going up and down hills makes it much harder, but also more fun. The only downside to running outside is that when you go down hills it puts much more pressure on the ligaments in your knees. So unless if you have bad knees (which of course you shouldnt do either in that case) then run outside! Plus running around seeing different scenery makes it more fun then running in the exact same spot for a while.

Outside is better for all the reasons stated above.

Running on a treadmill is lame. I go running up in the bush so I have to dodge roots and rocks and shit which makes it more difficult, plus it's ALL uphill. It also makes running a more enjoyable experiance rather than just being at home and watching TV.

What I think we should discuss is, if he ran hard enough, and the belt of the treadmill was mechanically timed to match his speed, would the flapping of his arms eventually create enough lift for him to fly?

Back in MY day everyone ran up the hills 8 miles to school, both ways, with rocks THIS BIG! Then in the winter it would snow, and we'd have to do it in snowshoes! And forget about all that fancy-schmancy high-tech clothing you whipper snappers have, we had to do all that in a loincloth!

Cycle outside instead. Better excercize than either. Better cardio, lower impact, uses more muscle groups, higher calorie burn per hour, and more distance per calorie.

Comparatively. You're all over 50, no?

However, track FTW. I hate my treadmill since you're not really able to quickly change pace and the thing only goes up to 10 mph. Plus, I'm staring at a cinder block wall the whole time, so it's a bit boring.

Won't be boring when the motor dies on you. Then it'll be extremely interesting until you faceplant it.

Oh god, you're not going to put that plane on the treadmill with him to see if it takes off, are you? That'll start that whole thread back up again.

Outdoors would be better.  However, my gym has TV's and hot female ass running around, so I go there.

Running outside is definitely better for you, and if it's on a fairly populated trail, odds are you can run into some fine ass females as well.

Personally, I have to mix it up based on my schedule and the weather (triple digit temperatures are not fun to run in, and the area I'm in isn't conductive to running outside at night) but whenever I can, I try to run outside.

IMO i would go on a track, for me (i run track at high school 4:45 mile) the treadmill hurts my knees so i prefer to run on the track

Outside is better, but I still would start off with a treadmill. Why? Because I am soooooo unfit that I would be too embarrassed to go for a run and return only 15 minutes later looking like a total wreck. What would the neighbours think? A bit like going to a sun tanning clinic for a bit before going to the beach for fear of frightening off people with my super pale complexion (plus I don't go to the beach anymore anyway as Greenpeace always try and push me back into the water).
