im sure youve read or heard about adjusting you video.con file for best graphic performance??

well i saw this post on bf2tracker.com and wanted to get more opinions: heres my test
______________________________________________________________________________

well i tried it...first off the system:

P4 3.2 OCed 10% via bios to 3.52

2 gigs ram

bfg 6800 gt oc (APG)

audigy 2 zs platnium pro 7.1

only had the latest fraps running - 2.7.2 (all other tasks ended - 18 running total)

desktop graphic settings maxed

nvidia driver 81.95

server: random - Wake Island - China just ran to helo and jumped in and waited till it was at 0% and took SS - some reason they were sitting a bit different - postion wise ? ? ?

notice anything different??

frame rates are the same in the pics but i noticed ultra ran smoother than high settings for some odd reason

click on the link under images to view fulls size...remembe to move mouse off of them when they load then when finished loading move mouse of them and wait till box pops up in lower right and click it...

taken with fraps in .jpg format and then uploaded

i dont notice anything different other than frame rates in game...ultra ran smoother but at 10-15 frames a sec it was real crappy...i usually run with destop on lowest settings and then BF2 video settings on low for best video while running fraps for video recordings at 100 frames a sec normal and recording they drop to 30 frames a sec...if im not making movies i have settins all on medium for best performance and quality that is standable at 80 frames a sec...

the chopper in the 2nd one too...middle left behind trees... and notice since i alt tabbed the flags on the 3D map r gone

other than that no change...once i got off island frames jump up to 25 frames a sec...once i got away from the texture of land and grass - water is easier to "draw"

oh BTW to revise the original post there

For anyone who has a sweet set up that thinks they has what it takes to play on ULTRA game settings do the following:

In order to play with Ultra High settings you have to edit the video.con file found in your profile you are using.

C:\Documents and Settings\FFOLKES\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\video.con

Change 3 to 4

VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 4
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 4
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 4
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 4
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 4
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 4
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 4
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 4
VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@75Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 6Samples

Did it today and boy oh boy does BF2 look SWEET!!!

**PLEASE NO FLAMING IN MY THREAD**

i did put everyting at 4 but did not set VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 6Samples since i read that the bfg 6800 does not support that....if you want i can try it to make sure...   SS here shortly . . .

i can get bf2 to load but when i log in as soon as i log in it crashes back to desktop

I can't even run on High yet....Upgrading RAM shortly from 1GB of crap to 4GB of Corsair XMS Dual Channel.

There is a bloke in the Clan I'm in (6th Marines) who runs on Ultra. It looks sweet.

dont "NEED" 4 gigs...2 loads up quicker than any1 else i know...im usualy first in server grabbing flag b4 any1 else...those with more than 2 gigs get in maybe 2-4 secs quicker than i do and dont make much differance....just able to create a squad quicker at times maybe...lol

ultra is a waste of file edit time IMHO

maybe if i had:
ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe
FX-57
CORSAIR XMS (2 gig)
BFG-7800 GTX OC 512MB PCI-e (x2 in SLI of course)
Creative X-Fi Elite Pro
and spent $4,500 for all that including case, cooling, HDs, dvd/cd/floppy drives, and such

it may be worth the time of edits/tweaks

i have asus a8n-sli deluxe
athlon 64 x2 4400
corsair xms 2 gig
bfg 7800gtx-oc 256mb pci-e
creative 2zs pro

and it's well worth it...you don't have to have the brand new as of today everything in order to benefit from it...i run ultra high everything and 4x AA, as mentioned earlier i also crash to desktop when i try to run 6x...i run between 80-99 fps without problem on ultra high @ 1280x1024...also as mentioned earlier, ultra high seems to run smoother for me than high as well...

I used to think Ultra-High made a difference.  However, I was wrong.  See my post on the subject at another forum.  Do not view the pictures in your browser.  Save each file and view with your image viewer to really see the difference.

I feel like its the anti-aliasing that does it for me:

16x on my system (SLI - 2 - 7800GTX's) + GAMMA anti-aliasing + TRANSPERANCY anti-aliasing.

My only complaint is that I can't figure out how to change the resolution. I have a 512MB GeForce 7800 which is great and all, but my apple cinema display is a 30" (2560x1600) screen and BF2 will ONLY run at the default 1024x768. If I modify the command line or the video.con file to run at a greater resolution, it will exit the game automatically either during the launch or just as you're loading and connecting to a server. Running in 1024x768 on a 2560x1600 LCD is just stupid. And what's with all the game manufacturers having such stupid selectable resolutions these days? Half the games I've bought in the last month don't have a higher resolution than 1024 or 1280....

If I could get the resolution increase to work, I'd go ahead and buy a second 512mb 7800 and use the SLI capability of the motherboard... bu tnot until then.

By the way - to the guy who wants to go with 4gb RAM... there's no reason to. In fact - you shouldn't. At most, you've got 4 DIMM slots. You want 4x512 - not 4x1024. There is greater latency with a 1gb stick than there is with two half gigs.

Anyway, you don't need a $4,500 rig to get the maximum results out of BF2. I have seen it running in "ultra" and it's no different than what my system runs in right now when you eyeball it. And my system was only $3,000 to put together (not counting the $3,200 monitor, of course).
