Okay guys, now I am going to tell you the most absurb story about some tech problems.

Well, as some of you may know I posted about my computer about a week ago.
I was going to get a new graphics card(x1950 pro 512mb) and some new ram(1gig) and a new psu.
Well about two days ago the computer shop had placed all of these things in and I went down to pick the computer up.¨I was really exited to get home and play and now comes some really weird stuff. I could not find the port in my computer to put the cable from my monitor in. I was amazed and was pretty sure that I had seen wrong but no. The end of the cable from my monitor has those sharp things that you need to put in a port that has some blue on it and has some holes. But it was gone. The place where the cable should have been placed was just a port with sharp things.

But with my graphics card was a kind of adapter that you could place the end of the cable from the monitor in and afterwards connect to some ports in the computer that is at the lower part. At first it worked. You saw the windows logo where it loads but when it has to go into the desktop the monitor says that there is no connection. You can hear the welcome music but you can not get any connection.

I can not contact the store because they are having holidays.

This is crazy. Hope you understod.

I am writing on my sisters laptop.

Well the gfx card's in the machine now yea?

If you were running your monitor from the onboard gfx on the motherboard then the vga cable from your monitor will need to be in the gfx card instead.

like this:

Dunno if i've fully understood your problem, just post back and tell me.

The X1950 Pro has two DVI ports, no VGA ports. I think this is what you're talking about.

You will need a VGA to DVI adapter, which the card should have come with.

you mean its like that on your gfx card:

and like this on your monitor:

and you use an adaptor like this:

apparently windows is starting up with the wrong resolution/refresh rate.

either go to safe mode to change the res back or do this

some guy on internet wrote:

Assuming the machine is logged on, press the Windows key and M together to clear the screen of any programs that might be open. Move the mouse such that it ought to be in a part of the screen where there are no icons - normally, far to the right and up a bit to make sure it's not on the Windows bar. Right click on the mouse. Do not touch the mouse again.

Press the Up arrow once. [edit by me]press enter[/edit] Hold down shift and press the Tab key once. Release shift. Press the right arrow multiple times - normally four, but press it lots just in case your graphics card adds lots of extra tabs to this display. Press Tab three times, then press the left arrow lots to get the display resolution down to something the screen can handle. Press enter once - you should now have a visible resolution, so click on OK. If not, either you must have have accidentally got an icon and brought up its properties, or your graphics card has slightly weird settings. Press escape to clear everything and start again. Try either adding an up or down arrow when doing all the right arrows to get through the graphics cards tab, or adding or removing a tab at the last stage before the left arrows to set the resolution.

The cable end that you have in the upper right in does not look like mine.

The cabel end you posted needs to be connected into my monitor. The end that I have from my monitor cable has some sharp things, so it can be connected into the blue thing in my computer. But the problem is that after I got it back I do not have that blue port on my computer.

See the port besides the blue one on your computer. There is a adapter with the graphics card that I plucked the monitor cable in and afterwards in that port. But when I go into desktop the signal dissapears.

Can you tell my what that port besides the blue one means. The port on the right side.

well, the card came with two dvi adapters. I took the cable from the monitor and connected it to the dvi adabter and then connected it to the dvi port. It works fine in the start but when it has to go into windows desktop the connection goes away.

try the thing I posted on changing your res. Its probably that. Can you boot to safe mode? Do you have the correct drivers installed? if not use driver cleaner to get rid if them

well the men in the shop installed the drivers. But why has someone played with my normal vga port. I always used the vga port but now its gone.

Damn but I am not home now.

I am just sure that the vga port was not at the end of the card section.

But how do I get into safe mode and change the res. And at which res should it be.

I am sorry but I am really dumb when it comes to computers.

linky. you should probabely set it to 800x600@60Hz because your monitor is definitely going to run this. once you are back in normal win you can put it up again

That card does not have VGA ports, only DVI.

You don't need to do all that crap with changing your resolution, just boot into safe mode and install new drivers.

There is just some problems with that. The guys at the shop have already installed the new drivers.
They have said that and the envelope with the driver disc was open.

So the problem must be that they installed the card on with a different type of monitor so therefor it can not get past the windows loading screen without shutting down.

Yeah, I'm telling you to re-install them. They are probably corrupt somehow. If you have video until Windows loads, then it is a driver problem.

Well, those employees said that after they had installed the various things they would check that it worked properly.

just get a VGA to DVi dongle

plug and play

sorted

and as said you may need to safe mode

and they have stopped putting VGA slots on gfx cards now because its old tech

most new monitors now come with DVI cables instead of the old VGA ones.

Okay, so if I want to install the drivers on my computer again, how do I do that?

Fixing Display Resolution and Refresh Rate Problems in VGA Mode

A common problem that occurs when users employ new video cards with old monitors is the issue of refresh rate and resolution compatibility.

Older displays, especially 15" screens, generally have a very low cap on the refresh rates and resolutions they can display. A standard 15" monitor may be able to display an 800x600 screen comfortably at 60Hz, for instance, but will become an unreadable mess at 75Hz refresh rate. If you exceed the resolution or refresh rate capabilities of your screen, you will end up with either a blank screen or a blurred, distorted mess when booting into Windows normally.

Either of these conditions makes it extremely hard to rectify the problem unless you reboot in VGA mode (which is not exactly safe mode, but is close enough to fit into the spirit of the article). To fix refresh rate and resolution errors:

Reboot the computer, pressing F8 to access the windows advanced options menu. Choose 'enable VGA mode' from the menu.

https://www.pcstats.com/articleimages/200409/safemode_8.gif

VGA mode starts Windows normally with a single exception. Your video refresh rate and resolution are both reset to 640x480 and 60Hz respectively. This should display correctly on any VGA monitor, allowing you to change the display settings to something more compatible with your hardware.

To do this, go to 'start\control panel\display' and choose the 'settings' tab, then 'advanced.'

Select the 'adaptor' tab and choose 'list all modes.' Select a resolution that works with your current monitor setup, then click 'ok' to test. If everything looks fine, reboot the computer into normal mode.

We hope that you now have a better idea of what the Windows XP Safe Mode is and what you can do with it. It's really your first line of defence against faulty software, so it pays to learn how to use it. This way you can avoid paying others to do it for you!

Well, actually I am having vacation, so therefor I am not close to my computer.

But tomorrow I will get home and try it as the first thing.

But what should I do to reinstall my drivers in safe mode.

Wow! Take it easy. Nobody has instructed me in what to do, if it is the drivers.
