Good cases make everything so much nicer. Also you don't have to buy them very often (my case cost quite a lot - but I've had it since 2001). A good case will last 3 or 4 or more upgrades, until you get sick of it really.

I've put together loads of PCs with shit, nasty cases. They're a pain in the arse. You get loads of things not quite fitting, needing to be pushed quite firmly into place and loads of jagged metal that you cut yourself on. Better cases also tend to have much better thermal characteristics so are better for OCing.
