Be Commander Give UAV/Supplies/Arty/Scan Alt + TAB Load up Firefox/Internet explorer Go to BF2s.com or any other site you like Browse the site ALt + TAB Scan/UAV/Supplies/Arty Repeat over and over.

I like to command.  It is another valuable team position like Medic or Supply.  When you win a round that you command it is just as enjoyable if not more enjoyable than being a grunt.  I have also figured out a method of recognizing the "commander friendly" squads.  (Not knowing this really makes commanding a pain.)   Usually you see something and try to give an SL the order to defend the Hotel for example.  A lot of the time you get a negative response or get ignored.   After this happens 2-3 times you stop trying to interact with the squads and commanding becomes boring.

NOW I initially use VoIP to give general tactical observations like "There's a squad breaking lines and heading to the Hotel".  Usually an SL will end up spawning behind lines to intercept the threat.  Then I say over VoIP "Thanks squad 2" so other SLs know that it was taken care of.    I then make a mental note of that squad as a "good squad".   After 3-5 of these VoIP episodes I generally know which squads I can count on and which ones I can't.

I might start issuing specific orders to the good squads but I like using the generic observation in VoIP.   That way the SL thinks it's his idea to go there instead of someone "telling" him to do it.  (Simple psychology) If I DO get a squad that re-spawns at the hotel then I make sure to UAV there or manually spot/supply for them until the objective is finished.  Even if my UAV over the main front goes out I will leave it until I am done spotting for the "good squad".  (Not saying I won't redeploy the UAV if I have a chance... but my first priority becomes my "good squad".)  That way the SL knows I am taking the time to be there with him and a bond is formed.   Once the SLs know that they have a commander backing them up on these tactical missions they don't hesitate to intercept the threat.

What upsets me is when our team is losing and I think to myself ..... "Oh, we need a commander." but when I check there is already one.  (Must be someone eating or taking a dump.)

And THANKS to those squads that I have had fun commanding!!!!!!!!   I hope I did a good job for you too.

Haha...You have more command points than I do and I have 250 hours more than you.

I just don't command...I'm satisfied with Vet Command...not looking for Expert anytime soon.

ill command after ive been playing on a server for a while. commanding can be done while also taking time for a few cigarettes at the desk, and after a few hours of killing and dying i always appreciate the nicotine

Why I command:
- Huge score boost.
- Power trip. You're ordering people around, dammit!
- Watching people scurry around like ants.
- Watching people fly when blown up.
- Cartillery.
- I can get a drink, let the cat in/out, take a piss, and eat without affecting my performance.
- KDR boost.
- Watching carnage while listening to music.
- SPM boost.
- Artying my own squads when they refuse to follow orders.

i don't command much but when i do i find it amusing to zoom in on an area when i drop artillery and watch all the people fly.
plus there's the good old cartillery.it's harder to do now,so when you actually manage to do it it's that much better.

No way!

With a mull and a bong you can get one BIG hit in between each round - after 10 rounds.....better go Commander now.

You "mull up" with a grinder, or "make a grind" - I use an electric coffee grinder.

Why'd you stop? After 20 years it just gets better and better.

I always go commander for a few reasons:
1) It's fun to command, especially when you zoom in and watch the individual battles.
2) I know where EVERYTHING is. No tard is gonna sneak up on me for a free knife kill. It gets even better if you are commanding in a hard to reach place (such as factory roof on karkand or hotel roof on jala), and people try to kill you, and you just blast them off the ladders.
3) Supply crates. Not only are they good for squishing enemies with, but you can do some pretty inventive things with them if you think for a moment.
4) If I don't go commander, some smacktard will end up in that position and either go AFK, or just give himself UAVs and not scan at all.

I almost  would have my 4th expert command badge, if it was possible to get more than 1

EDIT: being commander is good and easy points. You just sit there, watching TV, throw UAV and supply box once in a while, and end up with 60-90 points a round.

Another eating on the job commander here but I do enjoy the position anyway. It makes a change from the normal gameplay for a start but there is a great deal of satisfaction to be had from popping arty on a flag you *think* the enemy will take next and then seeing 2 full squads standing there just as it's about to drop

As others have said it's great to work with good players and actually control the flow of the game like a commander should, on the flipside it drives me mental when you have a noob Karkand lonewolf stood somewhere doing nothing and repeatedly spot someone sneaking across the water right next to him only for him to wander up to the hotel as if they have suddenly started handing out cookies. Then it's a jump off the roof, dash to cement, kill the chap and then hide again. Adds to the fun I guess.

Commanding on IO isn't quite as involved but you have to keep a close eye on the flanks... generally to be ignored by the points whores having a nade-fest near the hotel *sigh*
