Joint Ops sucks. But then again, its Novalogic. You people think EA sucks? Try Novalogic. Thanks Ill stay with EA.

Stats made this game what it is. I care about my stats to a point. I want my k/d ratio to stay positive. However Im not going to sit in an uncap and snipe just to save it. I also care about winning and will sacrifice the k/d for a win. Sad thing is you cant win by yourself. It takes teamwork and if you arent a team player then your team will probably lose. Join a squad. Lonewolf is for snipers. Nothing worse than watching your tickets drop like a rock and look at the squads. You have 1 or 2 squads with 2 or 3 people in each and 24 lonewolfs, 3/4 of them other than sniper.

Stats ARE the only reason you play.

Sorry, that should be "Don't be a sma..."

Maybe I should shut up?

I like the stats, I think they're great and keep a couple of silly goals there for me to aim for - they encourage me to use different kits a bit and change my playing style to get certain things which in all probably makes me a better player (albeit slowly and I'm still cack) for it.

I will say though that I really think the stats are very simply focussed around brute force combat. That there is no badge available for revive scores I think is a major weakness given there's a badge for most other kit functions in the game - but I would whinge, I'm a self confessed medic fag.

Take a look at 1942. Plenty of people still play it and there aren't stats.
bf2 163 000 players playing.

bf 1942   23 000 players playing.

bf2 demo version    2 200 players playing.

going from 163 000 to 23000 means the games dead even though theres still 23000 people playing

All I'll say about stats is they extend the lifespan of BF2 for me personally over other games such as Call of Duty or Counter-Strike. Sure, those games are fun, but you can leave a server after a few hours having basically made no 'progress'. At least in BF2, your hours of fun amount to something- as insignificant and silly as it may be! It's nice to track your progress as well. Other FPS games seem to have 'good players' based on egos and reputation, BF2 (stat padders/hackers aside) has good players based on well-balanced and impressive stats.

Okay, we get it. Unranked for those who don't care about stats.

Jesus, for an attention whore, you can get to be pretty annoying.

If they wouldn't have done it a 3'd party would have just like for bf1942.
Yes the stats have added much replay to the game.

tbh i think the scoreboard can be done away with entirely, or at least hide the kill/death stats until the end of the round

and perhaps only your teamwork points should count towards ranks (with greatly reduced #'s of course) and keep all the badges/awards/ribbons/medals as they are (ie. xx kills IAR would still be needed for xx bad./rib./med.)

but combat points in general would mainly be for bragging rights/monitoring what kits or "feats" you could improve on personally

maybe even have kills count as teamwork points if done in certain hot zones as well as within SL order perimeters (a la 2142)

idk, i'm sure there are foreseeable problems with this idea, and i'd appreciate anyone posting some, haven't really given it a lot of thought lately (was a big thing for me while there were rumours of this happening in the original CS, but it didn't happen)

personally i think it would promote teamwork while keeping the game rewarding on an individual level

it would probably make the game a little more tactical/strategic on pubs, without decreasing the intensity level

everyone here knows what a squad full of guys that are familiar with each other and have their kits balanced out can do running together heads up on a pub, and how much MORE satisfying it is when there's a similar squad working against you on the other team to offer a challenge

now imagine that, x 5-7 on large maps

i can't speak for anyone else but that would be heaven for me

if that doesn't do it for you, you probably ought to find a nice DM mod for bf2 or something of that nature, no offence

i won't lie, i still wouldn't play this game if it wasn't for stats

don't get me wrong, it's not like i hop into a server and say "ok, gotta get X amount of points today!" but it's just nice to finish at the end and say "hey cool, i got 1500 points" or whatever and see how close i am to a new badge or something

Didn't we just have this conversation?

That thread's only a month old or so, but I think the conclusions point towards a 'mixed blessings'.  The stats have made some of the game's problems worse, but have also added a lot to it.  Those problems are extant in other games of the FPS genre to one extent or another, and while the stats system may exacerbate it, they are also responsible for the long-term life of the game and its huge selection of servers.

I think that this poll needs a third option...

3. Made people play the game, but also abuse the game.

(I nulled vote)

stats kill possible mod addiction for those who care about their 1337 kdr or so , while some mods are really better then vanilla bf2

I seem to think that there are hundreds of other games out there that don't run stats.  I know of people who still play Medal Of Honor, a game that's almost 10 years old now, every day and still love it.

Look at BF1942.  There are still lots of people playing that game even though it never had stats on it.

how can u say BF2 would be dead without stats??? BF42 and BFV still have a few full servers and no stats what so ever.  I think alot of people have left BECAUSE of stats and the gayness they bring.  I care about my stats yes.. but would be perfectly happy if there werent any.

Well, stats are sort of an incentive. Like, its good to be able to aim at something instead of just randomly shooting shit in the face all day. But yeah, stats are neither the best or worst thing to come of BF2. There just a small addition that are actually sort of gimmicky.
