It's fine, and probably better to help ventilation.

nothing wrong with keeping it open - just might get a bit dusty

Depends. On some cases you can reduce the effectiveness of an air channel that does more to cool components than leaving the case open alone. I think in more cases than not though.

have you got a dog?

If so, does he like to sit next to your pc?

Mine did.

He didn't so much like sitting there after burning his tail...

How much airflow can you really fit in an XPS 200, though?

i leave my side open constantly, i even have a little 5 inch house fan blowing in there. It keeps dust from settling and gives an extra cool blast of air.

My case has been open for the past month or two. The side of it is in a different room and I still haven't bothered getting it. It's easy to get a fan and blow air into your case with it open - forget PC fans (not HSF, obviously), use BIG fans, they work suprisingly well.

Yeah, but mind your fingers and blow the dust out every so often. The case is really only there as a dust shield and finger-guard anyway.

Much like you can drive a car with most of the body panels missing. Not advisable and not very safe, but possible.

Yeah, if you've got a bit of a heating prob then turn on the fan when you start to play games.

I did that, used a big fan and then forgot that I had put it on the floor.Next thing I know I stuck my foot in the damn thing,I nearly shat my pants.

It'd be great to channel uber-cool air conditioning air into your computer.

you can actually use one of those window box AC units apparently.  But I think that you'd have to worry about condensation..

my room gets crazy hot in the summer. I placed a little fan behind my comp to help it circulate air in my desk.
I think it's fine to keep it open...for dells...just u need to keep it in an open area, and circulate the air.
