My parents "locked" the computer by putting a password on my dad's account...what can i do to figure out the password? is there a way to create an alternate password while keeping the same password so when they enter it it still works? I wish i could just create my own account but they would notice, of course. Please keep this low profile, thanks
wait for it to be unlocked, create a phyiscal distraction so you can access his desktop, create a new account with admin privs (make the name look like a builtin account). Before they realize you have done this, restart the computer, go into the bios and create a superivor password in case they decide to try to lock down the pc via bios.

Key Loggers are good but i think they only work when you are logged on and they are anonymous.
Okay jsnipy...could you be a little more explanitory? It uses the blue login screen where you select the icon so they'll know if i made it if they see another account...but...restart it.....and go into the bios? what's that mean? sorry

On the first part ... your Dad goes into the PC does he not? When he does, try to get him off the PC without logging off (like using a distraction). Once you have access, create a new account, and put it in the administrators group. This way you can log into you own account. Problem is this account may show up on the login screen. I could not tell you offhand how to hide it.Noobpatty wrote:

Disregard the bios for now ...
Remove the password or change it to something they don't know

they probably locked it for a reason...
That will show up and be obvious. I've already posted a workable solution in his duplicate thread.jsnipy wrote:

Man, when they come home they're gonna know the password is gone/won't work -i can't change it back to something I don't know!...i wish there was a simpler way...
That is why you use the administrator account!!!Noobpatty wrote:

Because it won't show up. It won't be the normal account they use. They will never notice.
You've been told multiple solutions that WILL work and will not be obvious to your parents at all. Now stop whinging and go and try some of them.
Just do this:

You are using a laptop at the moment, right? I assume it at least has a CD writer and you have access to a CD.
1) Get this (note the NT password recovery feature - that's what you want)
2) Burn it to CD.
3) If neccessary change the boot settings in the BIOS so the system boots from the CD before the HDD.
4) Use the Admin password reset feature
5) Reboot.
6) Log in as the Administator (which won't come up as an option on the welcome screen - unless in safe mode or if you "Hold Ctl + alt and pres delete twice." (not one I've ever tried, but sounds like it'll work)).
There you go. You are now logged on in an account that your dad is highly unlikely to ever check. Nor will it show up anywhere.
If you can't get into the BIOS to change the boot sequence (because of a password), you may need to reset your BIOS.

why not just press F8 when booting and boot into safe mode and log in as admin..and create a Password for the admin account...then let the system reboot....then press ctrl alt del twice on the log in page ...and log in as admin

Because typically the Administrator account has a password.joker3327 wrote:

You can just press ALT+CTRL+DEL, DEL instead of all that if there is no password.
Err typically there is no password set for the admin account in windows XP ...thats why he should boot in safe mode and set one!Bertster7 wrote:

that way only he can access it

No. Typically there is a password for the Administrator account. Unless of course the person who installed the OS is retarded.joker3327 wrote:

Alright, so it's probably not possible but...my parents "locked" my computer by putting a password on my dad's windows xp account (obviously i can't create my own because they would notice) and I was thinking if there was a way to find the password...please leave this question low profile...maybe there is a way to make it have an alternate password while keeping the current one with a program? please someone tell me a simple solution...i'm home all day so I'm on my friends laptop...nothing to do... i'm getting counter-strike withdrawl symptoms
er...Put your Dad's head in a vice "Casino" style until his eye pops out of his head. Mother F*cker will tell you his password then!
I'll try...last resort
A) install a parallel OS on another partition
B) Think what password your dad might use: his name?
C) Download a PW recovery tool
D) Download a certain boot-floppy and start your computer by it, it will reset the admins pw.
E) Use a live-CD

1. Hold Ctl + alt and pres delete twice. Enter the username as "administrator" and the password as something simple, like "password" or "admin" or "your dads name"
Whoever installed the OS might have put a password like that. If it's a manufactured PC try something like "customer"
2. If you do log on at any point... or if he leaves it logged on then hop on and replace logon.scr with cmd.exe and rename it to logon.scr
Then you have a fully functional command prompt when the logon screen saver appears -- you can do anything.

1) You only have to post about this once, not two different threads.
2) Listen to your parents. They're probably right.

You could also use a bootable linux disc to reset the admin password.
Or get a password cracker like l0phtcrack, though that takes a while.
Sometimes the Administrator password field is even left blank, give it a try.

Please remove all solutions that include guessing his password- i have tried for hours- from simple things to series of Initials and parts of phone number combined...he brought this back from his car dealership then somehow my mom agreed to spend $200 on A geforce 5700 and 2 '512s of RAM...Start with the best solutions i can do logged off, then at the end put the hardest or worst things to do logged in...i'm grounded, too english project was a 0 (too late) english grade....46/100

omg...so confused...so should i download light/pro?
i don't know what direction 3 means..
Explain how to do 4
But will all of the programs from his account not be available? I think CSS would work if i downloaded steam because steam holds the Cd-Keys with steam accounts.
So it won't show on the Blue screen but if i press ctrl-alt del(x2) it will give a Username and password space? if so what do i enter?
