I'm buying a new graphics card to upgrade from what I have currently so it will hold me over until the new models (Post 8800's) come out in the near future. I plan on going with a version of the NVIDIA 7950 but I'm having trouble deciding and/or finding help on which onboard cooling component is better on video cards. Fans or heatsinks. Money is not an issue and neither is fan sound... I use an X-Navigator case with 6 case fans and just want the best cooling feature. Thanks in advance!

These are the two I've narrowed it down to:

BFG GeForce 7950 GT OC PCI Express 512MB GDDR3

XFX PVT71JYHD9 GeForce 7950 GT XXX Edition PCI Express 512MB GDDR

The second link to the XFX card... the graphics card doesn't have a fan to cool itself. Look at the silver housing on the side of the card... the heat sink draws heat away from the GPU and disperses it. It makes the card completely silent, but doesn't seem like it would work very well... thus, the point of this poll.

"At full load the XFX GeForce 7950 GT recorded a temp of 78c" Not bad for passive cooling huh?

Passive cooling ('heatsink', as you'd call it) is alright, but works perfectly with an additional fan

btw that should be fan+heatsink or heatsink

Just buy whatever card you like and replace the stock cooler with a Zalman.

Or if you're in the UK the Arctic Cooling ones work out much better value. In the US the price gap doesn't seem so great.
