So I'm currently gunnery sergeant. My next logical promotion would be Master Sergeant; where I'd get an unlock. However I go all my basic badges, so I'll skip that and go straight to First Sergeant.
Does this mean I'll lose my unlock?

no, fist srg and master sarge r the same things but 1st is when you have all the basic pins, it is also better. so no you wont cheat yourself out of an unlock

They are the same rank level. You earn Master Sgt if you dont have certain basic badges. First Sgt is earnt if you have those certain basic badges.
