[Steam] Update problem

When I try to start Steam for the first time, it updates to 26% and then gives this error.

It started yesterday, before that Steam worked fine, but then all crashed and I wanted to reinstall, but now I even can't get into Steam.

I run Vista Home Premium.

Help...

Looks like something is wrong with the registry file for Steam.
Only advice I can give you is try reinstalling Steam.

Ok, well you might have to clear out your registry files for Steam.
I'll tell you how in a sec.

Ok, do the following:

Start > Run > type in regedit > click + by Local Machine > click + by Software > scroll down, click + by Valve > go to Steam folder and delete those files in there.

Hopefully that should work.

After you delete them, reinstall Steam, and you should be good to go.

Nope, didn't work, deleted everything and still the same error .

Hmm... I was hoping you were having the same problem I've been having. The latest Steam update has put my pings in CS: Source up by about 30 and started me lagging.... but only while I have ZoneAlarm running...

Bloody compatability errors.
