Firing at choppers

We've all done it, raised your rifle in the air and fired a few bursts at a passing chopper, knowing full well it won't do anything. Infact a lot of the time it just attracts their attention and the next thing you know you've got an FFAR rocket enema.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who've had this happen, but today I started a round on Sharqi, immediately an enemy MI-28 passed overhead, so I fired 2 AK-101 rounds at it. Now I know I technically didn't kill it because it wasn't even smoking, but the pilot flew it straight into a building and I was awarded 2 kills. Not a bad way to start the round.

Then later on another server I did the same thing. Am I just being jammy, or is there any real sense in using your ammo on choppers?

Anyone else managed this lately?

You just have to be the last one to hit him and it takes it that you killed the chopper...I always make sure to shoot the chopper so that if that happens i get an easy 2,4 points i do it to jets also when they take off of the carrier when im on it. Espically if the guy flying is a private, such an easy kill...

I have actually done that a few times.

However, when I'm flying, I'm glad that it's not like the way it actually works. Get a few rounds into an important part of the helo and you're done. Instead, they're bullet proof-ish

Always shoot at it. Chances are, most maps you won't live long enough to run out of ammo in a firefight, or there is usually a support running around somewhere. SHoot at, only a few things could happen :

1) You destroy it (Good)
2) You pester him so he doesn't pay attn, and flies into a bldg (Good)
3) You pester him, so he turns around and uses the chopper to attack just you. You have now successfully distracted what could've been the most deadly asset for their team. So what if you die; thats what CPs are for. (Good)
4) You shoot at him, and deal enough damage so that the next tank or jet that shoots kills him in one shot. (Good)

What bad could happen by you shooting at him?

I see the idea that you should shoot because what can it hurt, but it does give away your position. This is a concern that the chopper might turn around and light you up, but its more of a concern to the squad of enemy men near by. They could catch looking at the sky.

I get where your coming from that you could get a few easy kills but unless its smoking or taking fire it might end causing you more trouble than its worth.

My 2 cents.

Yea fair point. And for those stats lovers, it only helps increase your accuracy % since their big and easy to hit.

I always do that with an MP5 on Gator against the HIND. Great fun.

I only shoot at them if they are flying back for repairs, or if they are on fire or look like they are gonna crash into something.

Other then that, run and look for cover, unless of course its a blackhawk, then fire away.

I just shoot like crazy, notice my accuracy, not so good... But I also do it to practice my leading 1337ness while in a Jet, as all bullets move at around the same speed in BF2.

Since I am usaually sniper on bigger maps, I'll plug away at it with my M95. I dont do much dammage, but they rarely find me, and it only takes like ten or twelve shots to take him down. Quit often, I'll snipe the pilot out from some distance, and when that happens they always accuse me of hacking. Great fun, I have taken cobras with a pistol just by frustrating the pilot and making him crash, great laughs...

I do it all the time and can usually steal a few kills by doing it. If nothing else, I can distract it by playing cat and mouse for a few minutes and hope that my team mates can cap a flag while its distracted.

i've been sniped out of the chopper before by an ak47 it was the most bullsht shot ive ever seen. i was circle strafing a flag and boom shot out. fkn hackers.
