Well it all started when my game froze and i had to restart my computer. I turned it back on and get the message...

The file system32/config is corrupted or missing. Insert disk and press R to repair it.

So i go buy XP put it in boot up from disk and it says "Press a key to boot from disk"

i press every key on my keyboard and nothing happens. It just goes back to my old problem. Its like my keyboard isnt responsive when i get to that part. Any suggestions?

Help plz. I karma!

First thing to try before re-installing is to pull the hard drive out of your machine and plug it into another, working computer to run checkdisk on it. (be sure to use the /F switch) This may fix your problem entirely. (Unless the power supply is failing)

try the checkdisk thing first. Do you have another PC you could hook your hard drive up to?

yes i do, a crappy dell, by the way there is no possible way to get to my desktop. It goes to a black screen and displays the problem above.

Ok, remove the bad hard drive.

Unplug the CD ROM from the good computer.

Plug in the "bad" hard drive where the CD ROM was.

Boot it up

Make sure the computer can see the "bad" hard drive.

Go to Start, RUN, type in CMD and hit enter. (This will take you to a comand prompt)

Type:

chkdsk d: /F   (assuming that is the assigned drive letter of the "bad" HD

and hit enter

Just take the cd out, restart your computer, hit F2 to go into the BIOS and change the boot priority so it boots from the optical drive first, save+exit, let it boot up, pop in cd, restart and you should be good.

Why re-install when you can fix?

Might be alot more simple than this mate. Try using a non-USB keyboard (PS2) this should work.

Some older USB keyboards dont activate until windows starts (esp the wireless ones) I know this from experience mate. Hope this is the solution.

I think everyone's missing the point. The problem is with the OS.

In other news: "The keybord won't respond when trying to reinstall".

It start up and say press any key to load the disk but i cant press any disk. So it times out and says a disk read error occured. Ive used different keyboards but i dont have a PS/2 keyboard.

Just remove the cables from their CD ROM, don't touch their HD! You just want to slave it to another machine

It will fix it.

edit: hopefully

and to make it more clear, it sounds to me like your HD has read/write errors on it. Chkdsk /F means "run check disk and fix any problems found"

Why re-install when you can fix?
Because his original question was asking how to boot from the cd if his keyboard wasn't working in Windows.
