OK, so I have the ultimate setup with one catch.  How can I set the game to run at 1920x1200?

I am using:
HP L2335 23" widescreen LCD
ATI X1800XT 512MB
AMD64 X2 4800+
Abit Fatal1ty A8N

Thank you!

Oops... Title should read 1920x1200  I think BF2 will allow 1900x1440 but I am not sure this monitor supports that...

Good question. From reading around the internet some, i think BF2 can only display at 800x600 (from what i read)  ...  I did however recently get the Dell 24" monitor.  It kicks ass ..... except when i play BF2 / (SF)  ...  I have constant mouse lag and overall game lag.  IT sucks, and i ma thinking of going back to my old 19" flat panel just for the game, (I currently run dual monitors)

So, in the end, i have no idea ... I'm just curious to the answer as well.

Ignore by sig ... i can' figure out how to make it look like the stats thing.

Totally untrue. I'm running BF2 at 1280x1024.

No No, I'm running it at 1280 x 1024 as well, but i'm pretty sure it's set to 800 x 600 and scales up to full screen.  ---  again, just relaying what i read 'round the 'net

It does not scale 800 x 600 to fit 1280 x 1024; END of STORY.
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1280 x 1024
(+ some others) ARE ALL VALID non-SCALED to FIT your screen MODES.

1280 x 1024 (or 968) scaled to fit a WIDE-SCREEN MONITOR: 1900 x 1200 is scaled to fit; & everything looks
a little wider [meatier!] - but I like it.

Well, I googled a bit on this monitor and the 1900x1440 is supported, just not the native resolution.
I tried it and it looks good!  I will have to try a few different settings to see which I like.
I have seen references to a command line switch but I tried it and it did not work.  I probably did not implement it right.  It is something like this:
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1900 +szy 1220"
I'll try those again too.

Now, after trying this, BF2 and BF2 SF will not start.  I can double click and the BF2 logo appears then I get desktop.  Anyone have any idea how to reset all settings?

your problem is that it needs to be
"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200

If you enter the wrong resolution it will not run at all.
Your monitors res is 1920x1200

not 1900x1200 or 1900x1220

I run my Dell 2405FPW @ 1920x1200 all the time.

Thanks JBT, I'll try that.  Oh yeah, I am running the full version too.  The path we both posted has the word demo in it... Just didn't want someone else to use this for advice and have the path not work...

I am thinking of getting the 2405FPW but I dont want to loose any video information. Is it possible to play BF2 in the 4:3 aspect ratio with black side bars? Is is easy or complicated to make it work this way?

In the Graphics Options section?

It probably won't list resolutions your monitor doesnt support.  And Generally only CRTs of 21", or in his case 19", will support 2048 * 1536..

I'm currently running at 1920x1200 on my Dell 2405.  I have a 7800GTX SLI setup, and it's actually very smooth playing.

I know about adding +szx 1920 +szy 1200 to the shortcut command line, but I also found a site that stated change +fullscreen to +widescreen.  I've done that as well, but I don't see really any difference.  Not like I really did any blind tests or anything, but it seems to at least work.

Do *not* change the resolution in the video.con file as it won't work for some odd reason.  I really wish they supported true widescreen though.

try this website:
www.widescreengamingforum.com

BF2 and BF2SF have different command lines that need to be added to the desktop shortcuts.

edit: forgot to mention, on that website go the master games list on the left and find BF2 on there.

Go to My Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/0001 (if you have only 1 account but it can be also 0002 or something else) and open video.con file with WordPad (or with notepad or Word, whatever). You see there next line: VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@85Hz (that resolution can be different, it's your current resolution). Chance it to 1900x1200@85hz (or 100hz, what ever you want and can run with your monitor). Then just run game and it's in 1900x1200 resolution.

Go again to My Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/0001 and delete your video.con file and your video settings are reseted.

Edit: You can also test without deleting that file if you just change that resolution in your video.con file.

Good info!  Will try tonight.  I also found that my exit-to-desktop problem was resolved when I reinstalled the last patch.  Shouldn't be any trouble choosing 1920x1200 right?  My HP monitor runs at that for whatever reason.

That depends on your video card/monitor.  Either an option in your Windows video settings or (on some laptops at least) a button that switches stretch mode on/off.  All you do in BF2 is pick a 4:3 video mode.

You can't choose it in-game; you must use the modified command-line in the shortcut.  Note that this isn't true widescreen;  it's cut off at the top and bottom.  You either get that or 1600x1200 with black bars on either side or a stretched image.  BF2 does not support true widescreen, only 4:3 and 5:4 modes.

No there shouldn't be problem to run game with 1920x1200. It's non-standard resolution and also non-standard aspect ratio and there can be those black bars on either top and bottom or left and right side of screen

No, there's no reason to put that resolution to command-line in the shortcut. Just go to modify that video.con file in that folder I told you earlier. After you are modified it you can see that new resolution (1920x1200) in your game setups too.

Edit: And as jdrou said, BF2 support only 4:3 and 5:4 modes (which is kinda stupid), so if you can't change aspect ratio from your monitor you can't use real widescreen which

I actually run 1600x1200 on my desktop (more is overkill IMO) and ingame (I only have a 6800GT and again, more is kinda overkill).

But as to how I can/could run it, it's because I don't have a LCD.

OK, I have in my beast my new X1900XTX.  How can I verify that I am actually running the game at 1900x1220?  I know at one point that was an actual option in the video settings, but not now.

EDIT: Doht!  Just re-read the post from BlueScreen!  Thanks!  Will edit my files.
See ya around the "playground"!

The video.con caused the game to not start.  I reinstalled the 1.12 patch and then changed my command line to this:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 +modPath mods/xpack +ignoreAsserts 1

This works, but I cannot tell if I am REALLY running in 1920x1200 (I keep mistakingly saying 1900x1220).
Is there a command to type in the console that will tell me?  Will Fraps tell me?  When I go to the Video Settings tab, it still shows a max of 1600x1200@70Hz... This may be normal though.

Also, looking at the command line, what is the "+ignoreAsserts 1" mean?

Thanks again!
