Rashomon, a really great movie that if you aren't Japanese you probably haven't heard about.
Groundbreaking in terms of editing and production yes, the story was shite and the actors have done better in other movies ..... and for the supposedly controversial scenes they could have been done better but at the time of release it was popular to give it good critics, even some of the early bad critics was turned around for the better !Braddock wrote:

I do have it in my collection though right next to Memento and Reqium for a dream
Wait behind the line ..............................................................
The Chase, I just happen to watch that on HBO or Showtime the other day again. I don't know why but that is one of those movies that isn't a blockbuster but has alot of playability like a good game like BF2.G3|Genius wrote:

also,
The Chase with Charlie Sheen
a totally side-splitting comedy
Momento, Twisted like everyone has said but is really good. It kinda reminded me of a movie with John Cusak(sp?) called Identity, Very good twist at the end and it is actually a good movie, not cheesy, even though John Cusak is in it.
I just bought four the other day Reservoir Dogs, American History X, Four Brothers, Mindhunters
P.S. Has anyone seen the movie called The Deerhunter, the one the guys wife sent him in Jarhead for all the soldiers to watch and it ended up being her doing some guy. I have heard alot about this movie but have never been able to find it. I couldn't find it on IMDb site or find it for sale. Edit-->Just found it on IMDb it popped right up this time.

Hell that's another great one with De Niro and Christopher Walken, you can't touch that movie, but it can be drawn out a bit too much, like if you watch it on a Sunday afternoon on the couch your bound to fall asleep, but I love it what a great story about a group of friends that go through absolute hell.JG1567JG wrote:

Here's a few more I think are great...
1. Bad Lieutenent - Abel Ferrara (a gritty and raw movie but Harvey Keitel is awesome in it)
2. Garden State - Zach Braff (the guy from Scrubs can actually make heartfelt and moving films!)
3. Adam & Paul - Lenny Abrahamson (a serious comedy about a day in the life of two Dublin heroin addicts)
4. Blue Collar - Paul Schrader (Richard Pryor is great in one of his few serious acting roles)
5. Audition - Miike Takashi (you'll never go near a cute little Asian girl again after this!)

Bottle Rocket is another
Isn't that the one where he kidnaps some chick at a convenience store with a candy bar? Then they have sex in the car while being chased by the police?G3|Genius wrote:

I'm always on the lookout for good movies that may have passed under the mainstream radar, I'd love to hear any suggestions from anyone. Here's a few that I thought were truly great and didn't get nearly enough attention or praise...
1. L.I.E. by Michael Cuesta (US 2002)
2. Dead Man's Shoes by Shane Meadows (UK 2005)
3. Right At Your Door by Chris Gorak (UK 2006)
4. I Went Down by Paddy Breathnach (Ireland 1998)
5. Roger Dodger by Dylan Kidd (US 2002)
speaking of Guy Ritchie, not sure how popular it is but "revolver" is a brilliant film
also "snatch" and "lock stock and two smoking barrels", probley films that some of the americans wont have seen
also "green street" and "football factory"

that movie is classic too. I love the opening scene, where they are helping Owen 'escape'.Pug wrote:

I also suggest you to watch Das Experiment; it's a German movie based on a Stanford experiment involving how much having power can degrade the self-being.
The same director that made Memento also made another film worth watching called The Following. I still haven't watched it all, but from what I could tell, it was worth watching all the way. I recommend you checking it out.JG1567JG wrote:

Remember Me As A Time Of Day
I have 'Following' on DVD. It's quite good, not in the same league as Memento but good for a debut movie. The director Christopher Nolan also directed the remake of Insomnia with Al Pacino. I haven't seen the remake but the original is very good, set in Iceland and starring Stellan Skarsgard.heggs wrote:

Primer - I doubt many of you will have seen this film. It's a film for people with a brain, it never spells out exactly what's happening to you, you have to pay attention. If you thought Donnie Darko was complicated don't watch this film cause you won't get it. You will either love it or hate it.

The Station Agent is great! Strange train loving midgets anyday!
Exactly the kind of film for this thread! I've watched it about 4 times now I think and I think I have somewhat of an idea of what's going on in it. Talk about a mindfuck! Did you know that Shane Crruth - one of the main actors - wrote, directed and shot most of the movie himself on a tiny budget (and it still looks great). He used to be a game designer I believe!Milk.org wrote:

Has anyone else here seen the independent American film 'Bible and Gun Club'? I saw it on TV late one night, it's an offbeat comedy about a group of Bible salesmen who also sell guns on their way to a convention in Vegas.
