When people take things on the internets too seriously, it automatically becomes serious (ref: the guy who hanged himself online). That on the "mental" aspect.
Businesses use the Int0rrw3bzz to communicate with each other. Many businesses have made the Internetzz0rrz their business. Which of course is.. ..yes, serious.
financially (businesses), physically (fap fap fap), mentally (emos), and in terms of speedier communication and transaction across continents, the Intrawebz is serious business.

My business is not an Internet one.... but its become a serious must for it and is used in new ways as the months roll on. It started with just email, but now its: advertising; conferencing; research; training/education; regular massive downloads/uploads of software updates; its a support tool; its inter-system comms..... Oh yes its very serious!
Its also serious education and entertainment for home users.
Life would be radically changed without it so I guess that's how I would define it as definitely serious.

Take Magic Mullets post of this web site which features new games from UK TV shows. Now people have been playing similar games to these on game machines in pubs for a few years now, which people probably make a hell of a lot of money from them because of the 50p - £1 cost everytime. Now this web site is a very similar idea but on the web.
It is basically a new fun form of gambling but is also now mixed in with advertising. Take a gander at some of the games from Mullets thread HERE . In between rounds there are adverts which I am guessing companies will have payed some money for them to be there. So not only has this web site now got people paying money to try to win money, they have the advert market now!
