Some troubles with BF2.

Whether I am trying to play BF2 or a mod, the game always CTDs when I hit join server, but only online games. I can still play single player. Has anyone an idea as to why this would happen, and is there a way to avoid reinstalling.

I see no one has responded after our nice little time bashing c4...

Anyways, I haven't had this happen, though occasionally, the game will crash if I try to join some servers, or it'll crash after loading halfway. I usually restart the game and try a different server.

Had quite similar problem ones, had to re-enter my cd-key (Battlefield 2\Support\Battlefield 2_code.exe) and re-patch. That solved it for me.

superior if you use the shortcut for logging in..the automatic login when you double click on an icon for bf2 thats your problem right there
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1+playerName xxxx +playerPassword xxxx
if that is in ur "target" for the properties of one of ur mod icons, you need to revert it back to normal

do the usual anti-virus/spyware checks. clean out your registry. check the auto-ready box. Test for CPU (prime95) and memory (memtest 86+) problems. Reinstalling is probs the solution though

Well I am doing a virus scan now. Then I am going to try to re-enter my cd-key. And to Bigmack, I didn't know you were moving it, so I deleted the topic and created the same one in tech. That is probably why it was all weird.

Well I tried the CD-Key thingy and now instead of a unexplained CTD it says "CD-Key invalid" :\.

Uninstall BF2 and SF
clean out your registry of everything BF2 related
reinstall bf2 and SF and re-patch

You could try going to C:\Program Files and deleting/renaming the "InstallShield Installation Information" folder (probably hidden), then try to install the game again.

This only happens to me while I play mods. Funny thing is, somedays it won't crash, somedays it will, and when it does, it chooses when to CTD. I could be playing for a few seconds or playing for a few minuets or every half and hour.

I tried reinstalling the mods but alas no solution. I just learn to live with it.

Manually uninstall, including the fix for the installshield. Follow these steps exactly and problem solved, I had all the problems you state above.

I already did that. And BF2 installed just fine, but now SF wont install.
