Om the video settings, there is geometry. What does it do?
It's the shape of objects. The higher the setting, the more poly, the more it looks real. The lesser settings make it look blocky. (Blackhawk guns is a good example, try the settings and look at the guns.)
High geometry = better viewing distance, never ever have it on medium or low, HIGH is a must.
It changes the maximum amount of detail in the meshes used for scenery, players and vehicles.
Also the game draws things that are further away in less detail than things that are closer, so using a low geometry setting can cause distant objects to appear/disappear.
This and the view distance setting effectively adjust the rate at which the detail decreases over distance, and hence the distance at which objects appear/disappear.
