Some regulars have expressed we need a change in the structure of DST to make it more user friendly, what changes do you think could make it better and why or maybe why not !

Some changes i`ve come across is !

*Subsections - Religion, Global warming, Global Politics, European Union, US internal affairs etc etc

*To mark each thread like in the other titles subforum, example in a Religion subsection you where to mark a new topic [Zionism]<threadtitle>

Give your views on these and/or what you think could make DST a better place !

For instance, we could have these sections:
*US Domestic Issues (illegal aliens, etc)
*International Issues (EU issues, Canada, Latin America, Australia, etc)
*Middle East (Israel-Palestine, Iraq War, etc)
*Science (Global Warming, and else)
*Religion and Philosophy (God and atheism, etc)

Shouldn't they be taboo topics?

I don't like subsections. I browse the forums to read about a variety of topics and see what strikes me, educates me, surprises me. I don't need to be able to zero in on one kind of thread like I'm doing research on a particular topic, I want to be able to browse everything at once.

Nope, taboo topics would be like: Godday m8, i just put ma GF on tha barbie

Or even: NZ recognizes Peter Jackson`s contribution to movie history and renames Wellington to Petersechsieville !

I said somewhere else that subsections are a hassle. You have to go to each different one instead of selecting from the list given here. It provides a great deal of diversity to the forum, and we all know that some people will just live in certain areas of discussion if they are made. Many topics get off track, too, and will morph through several different subjects throughout the course of its popularity. The present system is perfectly acceptable.

Except that alot (read: most) of the topics we talk about bridge across those subjects.

Thats why if we choose to use subsections we should not have too many, maybe 5 or 6 at the most and the build up would look like the admin chatter does.

Those not familiar with that setup it looks kinda like this: EU, US and AU have it`s separate subsections and then there is the general Admin chatter below !

We should have two News bars.  One could be BBC/Reuters for the guys who want to be informed, and another could be Fox for the Neo-cons.

we've spoken about this often in the mod section.  you guys need to come to an agreement about what subforums you want for the DST.  there's already been some proposals.

Here is the current format that we (mods) have.  Probably a good starting point:

Bernadictus wrote:

Because it is impossible to track multi-topics about certain subjects and the chaos resulting from that I suggest a new type of arrangement for the D&ST

D&ST (Sub forums)
- American/European/Asian Politics & Affairs
- War on terrorism/Global security Issues
- Religion & Ethics Issues
D&ST (Main forum)
- All general new which does not fit into the above mentioned sub forums.

I put put those into subforums because they are the issues and topics requiring more moderation than any other topic.

Comments/Critics/Suggestion are welcome! What do you think about it!
Please talk it out in this thread and agree on something that makes sense.

subforums, bah, take or leave it.

I vote a leet invite only section, where a person can be voted out.

I disagree would probably turn into one side ganging up on some one that they disagree with, also don't think Chuy made this site to include separate forums where only the so called Elite people can go.

Also how do you decide who gets to go in this forum or even runs it? hows it based Karma, number of posts, mates with the forum starter?

Think if you want something like that you had best start your own forum.

EDIT: No offence meant ATG, just my opinion that's all.

And nothing's been done about it! Can't one of you mods just do it or do you need to ask Chuy? How hard can it be? The code's all ready to embed on here from the Reuters or BBC sites. Someone just needs to do it.

I like ATG's idea too, although leave the forum open, just give everyone the opportunity to vote off the twat of the day should there be one. Power to the people as they say.

I thought of something else too. How about creating a "Mod of the Week" position for the person who has contributed the most informative, eloquent, concise posts of that week. The full time mods would have a vote and select who to give mod power to for a week. It would give insight to the regular D&ST'ers of what mods do and might encourage better posts.
