The topic title kinda explains itself.

Everyone knows that the 6800 is better then the 6600 but me being paranoid; I find that the 256mb version of the 6800 costs from £180-£250 whilst the 128mb version cost around £120 -/+   - Almost I identicle to the 6600 256mb version.    Makes me wonder if the that 6600 258mb is better than the 6800 126mb version.

The hear that the 6800 can run bf2 in High settings whilst the the 6600 in medium. Sorry but can someone clarify this as I am to choose one for christmas. This new card will give me the option to sell my Radeon 9200 (bargain bin anyone?) and finally play the new wave of games.

  Thanks.

For the price, I would go with the 6600 GT. I had a 6800 128meg and traded it for a 6600GT 128meg. I would not give the 6600GT up. Had two, one in each of my machines and only thing I replaced a 6600GT with was a 7800GTX. But thats just me. If you go with a 6600, make sure its a GT.

Even tho the 6600's a 256, id go for the 6800 128, newer chipset designed to run the newer games. Cant you go for a bit more cash and get a 6800 256? You can pick em up cheap these days as Nvidia are not making the AGP slot cards anymore, at least thats what i heard. I got a 6800gt 256 with 2 gig ram, runs bf2 like a dream. How much ram you got? some times wacking in more ram makes a better improvement than a new graphics card. Have a look at 'overclockers.co.uk' for good prices on gfx cards.

You've got it backwards SNAP.  The 6600 is a newer chipset than the 6800.  It was the first native PCIe GPU developed by NVIDIA.  However, it was designed specifically for the mid-range market and has less pipes than a 6800 (8 vs. 12+).  I am not sure which makes more difference, the number of pipes or the amount of VRAM.  I personally have a 6600GT w/ 128MB of RAM.  It works pretty well, but I only use Medium settings in BF2.

Well most of my posts on the other forums nudge me towards a 6600gt - I have 1g of ram if that helps.

Those other forums are dumb, get the NV40(6800) Hands down. It has more pipes and is clocked higher.

I dont know why people still favour the NV43 over the NV40

the vram doesnt matter much its about the gpu and the vanilla 6800 is still better than a 6600gt

I have a plain vanilla XFX 6800 128mb 8x AGP and it cuts through most games very well (also have 2 gigs OCZ ram, 3200+ 754socket 2.2ghz).  I can play BF2 on all high settings with 4XAA except for textures are set to medium.  The 128mb is a little weak for loading the massive textures in BF2 maps so go for the 256 6800 if you can afford the extra cash.  I wish I would have
