I've played the game a few times and have liked it so far. The basic question I have now is whether or not to give into all the vehicles. The servers I go on just have constant air/tank whores and it really just makes me think that they can't get down on the ground and use the guns, I realize of course, that it's kind of naive. So should I give into the annoyance and just learn how to use the aircraft to combat them or try to just get better at my game. I've found myself actually going into the no vehicle servers, but I'm viewing that as a possible hinderance to me gaining a full grasp of the game.

Also is there really a "best kit" to use? I find myself more often then not just being a medic, but I want to get some actual kills and the last job of the medic is to search out and attack the enemy, I'd think. So should I go with Spec. Ops., Assault, Support? I'm thinking perhaps the reply would be "To each's own."

And on a side note, and just perhaps a small rant, I realllly hate artillery >< Guess I should learn how to be a commander as well. Looks like I have some reading to do in the Guides forum.

Erm, "give in" to them? They are what makes BF2, BF2. Otherwise it would just be a bog standard FPS with a lot glitches and bugs. They provide another level to the game that others cannot even come close to.
Theres nothing wrong with them at all. The only whores exist in city maps who spawnrape infantry (or J10's on Wake). Use them properly in the better maps and you cannot possibly be a "whore".

Well I haven't really yet learned the names of the certain maps with the exception of Karkand. But I was playing one where the U.S. started on the carrier and there was a consistent bombing of that carrier along with all the transportation off of it. That really kinda ticked me off.

I do know that the vehicles add a different aspect to the game (by the way you should be informed that I'm a Counter-Strike player hence where it comes from) but there's just certain people that rely on it as their only way to gain kills and they are just never on the ground. I guess I just have to learn to beat them at their own game, because in all likelihood, they will do whatever makes them win, and I should be doing the same.

Yeah being in server that allows spawn rape is bad especially if your on Gulf of oman/dragon valley or wake island.

With vehicles its just pratice the tanks and apc's are pretty easy to get used too.

The choppers and planes are a bit harder and probally best practising in single player. There are alot of guides on here for choppers and planes maker an easier transition from vehciles to choppers/planes.

Do you have special forces? there's a few maps on SF which are more aimed towards infantry.

I'm a former CSS player too, so I tried to counter vehicle whores the infantry way: by dedicating myself to anti-tanking... which works out pretty well after you figure out how to remain stealthed; not jumping in front of tanks hoping to kill them in one mighty shot.

It's true that it takes quite some skill to take out a tank single-handedly when on foot, but it's not impossible. You could also try playing special ops, but that class requires even more stealth and awareness than AT. Not exactly newbie-friendly so to speak.

But you should try out the tanks too, they're fun now and then.

When I first started out I used Spec Ops a lot and went to the enemy base and bombed everything like the command center, radar, and artillery. The opposition really catches on pretty quickly though lol.

Yeah, it's just part of the game I'm afraid, but there are always ways around it. Eg. you definitely know that a commander will arty you if you're capping a flag that he/she doesn't want you to capture. If you're in a squad capping a flag and you're the only squad doing so then yeah run after you've neutralised it and come back after the arty barrage is over. If there's major action elsewhere then you don't need to worry, the commander will think "hmm 1 kill or 5 kills? I'll just let him/her take that flag".

With the vehicles, every vehicle has a weak area (ok maybe not the J10) so you've got to know how to exploit your position. Eg rocketing a tank when it's sitting on a supply crate is suicide, destroy the crate first.

And your idea of playing infantry as jeapardising your experience of the game: yeah, pretty much. Get bored of normal bf2 before getting head on into an infantry spree, although you'll find playing infantry only for a long time will make you so much more effective as infantry in the normal servers. Just got to remember that there is arty in normal games

To each his own really. I like flying jets, but there are too many whores. I hate armor.

I play IO mostly (or special forces... more infantry based), but vehicles are still fun.

my machine kinda limits me to IO and it does help build up your squad play and effectiveness as infantry!
the times ive been back to the full game with artillery and vehicles ive been a much more effective player, not that my stats would agree.....

try to get a good squad going and its much more fun, normally "squads" just dont work together and get owned and that can be what makes it shit to play.

I'd like to teach you how to gun in the helo... fly you around a bit. Once you own in the helo, you never turn back. Helo whoring is the greatest part of this game.

Yeah I was kinda like wtf I go into a helo and I can't figure out how to use the fuckin guns so this is useless lol. Same with the jets and the bombing. But I'm working with people who I played CS with that have been playing a lot of BF2 and made a clan so hopefully I'll find the time to learn all the tips.

For now I mainly play at a LAN cafe, which also has SF. Is that the one I should try more? I haven't even opened it yet so I have no clue what to expect.

Just make sure the first thing you do when gunning in helo is press "C" to take the cockpit away.

Ok the guns are pretty much for infantry and cars anything bigger is for the tv guided missle.

When you fire the missles, for the duration of the shot you are the missle.
Firstly click on the target (it will fire)Slowly adjust the missle by clicking on the target and the missle will change direction.
Click about as fast as you would of singleshotting the AK in cs.Click two fast and it will only respond to so many of the clicks.

If you have a good pilot he/she will line you up for the shot all you will have to do is hit the target.
Like a said click say every one second.

Oh and we aiming for choppers go for the tail they seem to be easier to hit.

Welcome to the world of BF2.  People are only interested in points.  Even though they are a Colonel rank, they still TK for the jet so they can bomb everyone before they even get the chance to fight back.  Some people can have "fun" doing that...

Yep. And even though after a score of 50.000 you won't get any more unlocks, people still whore points like crazy.

Try Infantry Only servers and get used to the kits, try them out each round and decide which one you do best with. I would suggest u try flying and tanking on singleplayer and work toward playing vehicles at a later date. I played alot of singleplayer (before the infantry only patch came out) and then went online. I felt that put me in better sted than some of my counterparts who were coming 'online' before trying singleplayer. You learn alot of simple stuff from singleplayer without the annoyance of your deaths sticking on your stats.

well some of the players might have started out how you are, playing as the infantry and getting the guys above crapping on them.

thats how i was, hard;y evcer touched vehicles, especially those that are the air variety.

then on the great struggle as first sergeant i started to pick up chopper flying with a mate. and with that i took to the air, and as now i'm pretty bored of infantry combat (though i still do a fair bit and enjoy it) i prefer going for the helos/jet (or armour coz i need that damn badge)

About the 'best' kit, there is no best kit but there is a worst kit: Assault.

Spec-Ops get uber-accurate G36C, and can take out tanks and assets with c4.
Medics get self-healing capability (endless HP), reviving, and good guns
AT get AT missiles for armor and even choppers, DAO-12 and P90 are not bad
Support, endless grenades and the RPK is insane
Engineer, mines can be helpful and engineer is the kit to use if you're going to be driving armor
Sniper, gets a sniper rifle and claymores (I am in no way saying that I like snipers, but you have to admit the claymores are good for getting loads of kills)

Assault?
Well, you get a grenade launcher. But you get no hand grenades. Oh yeah, and useless smoke grenades. I like to play assault but to be honest, it is the weakest class in the game, on paper. Sure there are people who have perfected the art of the former-noobtube and the G3 is kinda cool, but these advantages don't compare to the other classes.

Yeah I played the Assault kit along with the Spec Ops to start out with, mainly because the gun looked pretty nice lol. But I noticed that it really wasn't a well-balanced kit and I couldn't judge the grenade launcher to save my life unless the target was within 10-15 feet. I did like the medic kit because you could heal yourself and keep getting points for healing others, but I'd rather use a more offensive kit. So I guess I'll try to stick with Support or Spec Ops, maybe I'll pick up AT, and Engineer if I decide to use the armor.
