This isn't propaganda. It is a primary material from the soldiers prospective. Most of is bombings/eplosions and casualties of war.

'Enough said' was in responce to 'rape the memories of the lost'. He is a soldier, so it's patrosing and ironic that you say that considering he has probably lost friends/associates in the conflict. The other part of your statement doesn't make sense.....ie grammatically it doesn't make sense. I literally have no idea what you mean.

oh good lord, this topic started with a post of a movie, however its gone toward a long line of flaming posts though, so lets get back on topic

arguably the movie is biased, but aren't all movies, aren't all media outlets, isn't every person biased, and therefore can only make biased work.

Some of the things we all enjoy best in life are biased, and they don't make any attempt to hide it.

Who grew up watching Disney movies?

THE POINT: everything is biased, it's unavoidable

The movie is just that, a short movie, biased? of course, it shows suffering on both sides, of a war which has upstanding moral intention, but has been short sighted and still lacks direction. If all we were there for was the oil, we'd enforce the oil fields and a pipeline, take the oil, not pay the Iraqi government for it and let the population die in filth cause they have no money. American soldiers are in the cities, losing friends on a daily basis to try and create a peace in the country, which, I believe to be an impossible goal; but we're there, trying, to sometimes ungrateful hosts, which is more than can be said for a lot of the rest of the world, not to mention about 95% of the people who post on this forum or play EA Games.

The reason this war is so difficult and isn't simple is that once we take a city it does not immediately become friendly due to far different moral values and a populace where a minority sees us as invaders. Not to mention the centuries, not decades, but centuries of civil struggle between various Muslim factions(melting pot of the middle east). Iraq is in that way similar to the U.S., they have multiple cultures(including Christians), however, their melting pot is more physically violent in contrast. The peaceful people, caught in the middle support which ever side has more power in their area, so they don't get killed(not too damning a motivation). If the U.S. wants to be seen as this all powerful liberator from tyranny, it simply wont happen. One side will always be oppressed or feel underrepresented in that region.

Another thing to remember is that the U.S., when it was first forming was not a peaceful change. My country, our country(for most of us), went through a costly war to secure its freedoms from the country that was our occupier and oppressor. After that war, there was yet another in 1812 when an attempt to re-enter our country was made. Even later, we fight a civil war within our country, forcing divisions between north and south, polarizing the nation and ending as the most costly war(in American lives) that has ever been fought.

If we want peace in Iraq, there is no solution that is acceptable. We cannot simply kill all but one religious group in the country....thats called ethnic cleansing or genocide. If we leave the country, there will undoubtedly be a costly civil war that will rage within the country, and will be funded by Iran partially(bankrupt as they already are < source: Russia cuts off nuclear research support over unpaid bills). The only bright side of the latter is that the U.S. can spare our soldiers the misfortune of dying during a civil war that we should not be involved in.

The thing is, there is a minority of people in Iraq that hate the U.S. enough to kill us, but the propaganda over there is strongly in their favor, even the government we put in power turns on us. They see us as invaders, when we are there trying to create something that hasn't been for centuries, PEACE.

We more privileged and fortunate see it as our duty to safe the poor wretched heathens and bring them out of the darkness and into the light. I say F that, let em fight and die for it like our ancestors did ever since the advent of time. People get up in arms over civil rights violations overseas because 'it is our job to prevent mistreatment of all living things'.

I understand what Parker is getting at.

Yes we should all pay respect for fallen soldiers (I do), but all of America can't stop work for a Day to honor fallen soldiers.  We haven't in any other war, and our Economy would instantly fail.

The Movie is propaganda.  Propaganda doesn't have to be as obvious as your Communism example, but any media presentation designed around the point to change an opinion is Propaganda.  The film showed suffering and blood, intersperced with unpopular Political Figure heads all with a violent and unhappy song in the background.  It's propaganda.  If you wanted to see the "whole thing" you'd show a patrol checking a house with the Iraqi Police/Army, then talking to the local populace and distributing food and water, then training said Iraqi Police/Army, and you could throw in an IED attack/ambush in which someone dies graphically or loses a leg, the resulting confusion and anger (and crowd), then the return to base and the whole debriefing and cool down period.

Every point of view/tv show/newspaper clip/radio broadcast, there is always an element of bias. The full entire story can usually never be told because of limited resources.
