Look Zimmer, take this from someone who went throught the same ideas ur going through now, I switched from XP cuz of its endless errors and got Vista sure I had to upgrade my ram from 2gb (luckily i bought 3gb more for total of 5gb) and Vista is working like a charm :-)
The only problems I have with my Vista are the following: BF2 now stutters for the first 60 seconds of gameplay and Supreme Commander, ran at maximum detail, is now running at 60 fps instead of the normal 75
the XP vs. Vista arg sounds a bit like the win2k vs. XP argument.

I am avid gamer, and Vista works fine. My rig is pretty good spec though. (E6400,2GB,X1900XT 512 etc)

Ok ...well where to start...how about...Ive had vista dual booted now for about 2 months......BF2142 upgd 1.25 came out ...so I thought why not take the plunge...I booted into Vista installed BF2142 ..then Northern Srike then 1.25....no problems what so ever with the install
Click on start 2142 boots quick looking good...go to options ..set all to high.......8800GTX ... sorted needs to restart....ok...... optimising shaders usually takes 3 - 4 mins......done in just under 2.....game looks awesome....no lag......bring it on...just finished a 2 hour looky nice test ...fast smooth .. very enjoyable...
AMD 64 X2 4400 2 gig of mem 2x320 seagates in raid 0
StokoE = if vista sucks arse on your system...then there is something wrong with your system(maybe I can help)...it runs fine on mine....I get a score of 5.0 on the vista compatability screen
Everything just seems smoother
Only probs i had initally were the creative drivers....fixed now and the Nvidia drivers...also fixed now....
Give it a few more weeks..and I will switch to vista completly
As for Vista tagging your bios.....wrong...just set virus protection in your bios and nothing can be written to it....
If you forgot to do that just reflash..
I have lots of shall we say not completly legal stuff on my PC ......window genuine advantage is on my PC and guess what so is all my dubios content...I also have over 15,000 mp3 tracks...none with drm...lets look ...oh yeah still there....

I'm a gamer and I pwn with Vista also.
gonna upgrade to Vista on my main computer in 10 min.... getting tired of Xp. alot of crashes, errors, missing dll's, memory errors when playing....

Vista Ultimate x64 works fairly well overall for me since CMedia finally released some decent sound card drivers. BF2 isn't PERFECT on it though. Works okay for most players, but for me, I'm not too wild about getting dumped to my desktop after playing 1.5-2.5 rounds. So that's still not quite right.
I will admit that I have a fairly healthy, fairly Vista friendly setup.
Asus A8R-32MVP, Opty 175, 4GB PC3200 DDR, PNY 8800 GTS 640mb, X-Mystique Gold 7.1
Otherwise, with my sound card now working right, I'm happy that I'm seeing progress towards reliability, better driver support, and other fixes. Now if they'd just make it easier to play Divx/Xvid/X264 in Windows Media CENTER (works okay in WMP), I'd be SET!
