AMD has decided to push forward the launch of the Radeon HD 2900 series to May 2nd instead of the original date on May 14th. Products demonstrations and reviews are allowed to appear on that date so it is considered a soft launch. However, AMD is still keeping Radeon HD 2600 and 2400 under wraps until the big day on May 14th. Radeon HD 2900 XT cards will be available from that day onwards for the price of US$399 to be positioned against the GeForce 8800 GTS. The final clocks for Radeon HD 2900 XT stood at 740MHz core and 825MHz for memories.

PS: Wanna bet the HD2900 is better than what the interw3bz is telling us right now? AMD can't sue them, because they're giving information that is not valid and thus does not violate the NDA, still, the horrific numbers could make people buy vNvidia cards. Brilliant tactics

yeah dailytech's todays 2900xtx test was totally screwed up. and when ATI releases the new aka "R600 launch" driver it's going to pwn. I bet nVidia didn't expect this one coming so fast. geforce 8800ultra is priced at 999$ right now and X2900XT is 400$. total owned in price/performance ratio

That's good news.  That means I should be able to get an X1950XTX master card for cheap, and jump on the Crossfire action.

I woudn't count on it. I have an X1900XT, and for a time I was looking for an X1900CF card. I figured that they would be cheap because i) the X1950 series had been released and ii) 8800s had been released, so there would be a price drop for the AMD cards.
I found one a few weeks ago....it was $600AU.
Also, look at the 7900GTXs. If you can find one, they're over $600 still, even through ther 8800 series has been released for several months now.
