Anyone using it? I am thinking about getting a new board and processor and it supports 1200. I have only found one set of 1200 speed ram. I just have 2 gbs of ddr 400 so I was wondering whether then board would support my old 400 right now till 1200 becomes more popular or if I am better of going with a different board which supports 800. I fugure if I am going to spend a little money why not get something a little more future proof. If anyone knows anything about it let me know. Also any other suggestion would be appreciated.

Right now my specs are -

3700+ amd
2 wd raptor 36gb
120@7200 segate
dfi lanparty board
2gb corsair xms
evga 7900gtx
600 watt Hyper psu

This is the EVGA board I am looking at. I like the dfi as well. I chose these two because I have had the most experience with these brands and their customer support.

the EVGA board is the way to go...the dfi and ASUS boards are overpriced for what they have, and the EVGA board=lifetime warranty.

just because your computer can run DDR1200 does not mean it will use it...simply because the FSB of the Processor is too slow...if you run dual-channel memory, running 2 sticks of 667= 1334, which is as fast as any FSB out there.

however, if you buy memory that is rated well above that (1066 and up), it is very easy to overclock that memory down to a cas latency of 3, or even 2.5, which is the way to go. instead of getting DDR1200, corsair makes a nice set of 1066 ram, 2gb for $250...

i assume you are getting a c2d processor, but just need to make sure... i suggest the E6600 honestly...seems to still be the sweet spot imo.

i am thinking of selling the old one and building a new one, of course the problem with that is it would leave me with no pc till the new one comes in....decisions decisions

I've got that board. It's very nice.

there is absolutely no way it'll support your DDR 400 memory though. That is DDR and the board only supports DDR2 memory.

Chances are you'll see the greatest benefit from RAM running at that speed on a highly OC'd CPU. Since the RAM frequency is so high you will do best running very high FSBs. The best CPUs for FSB OCs are the 6300 and 6400. The new 6320 and 6420 might be your best bet for getting the most from that RAM.

I run my 6300@3.5GHz on that board and only using 800MHz memory. I get better speeds than stock 6800s so it's a good way to go for low cost performance. The extra cache on the 6320 and 6420 may even mean they outperform the 6600.

DDR 1200? Don't even think about it. I hope you mean DDR2. DDR max speed is 400 without overclocking, and that's a 3x RAM OC. Don't even touch it!

Re-read, carefully.
