So, I have two computers.

One has a whole bunch of music I downloaded from itunes.

The other doesn't have itunes and I would prefer to keep it that way if at all possible.

Is there anyway I can convert the files from MP4 or M4A or whatever it is that apple/itunes uses to just a generic mp3 so that I can play it on windows media player.

Or... if that can't be done, can I load itunes (on vista) and then just transfer the files or will it not let me do that?

You should be able to get a Itunes version for vista easily, and the MP4 transfer fine to windows machines.

wait so even if the music has one of those cool little locks at the top that indicates that it has been purchased (or whatever they signify) I can move it to a different computer?

hold up, are the computers on the same network?

if so just enable sharing on itunes, password it, the install itunes on the other machine and when you open it up it will show your playlist from the other machine, click on it, it will ask for the password and then you will be able to access all the music from the other machine with out putting it all on there.

There are plenty of AAC to mp3 converters out there, many of them free. Use that to convert the files into something windows media will play. Or do it the old fashioned way, burn them to a CD in the audio format, then rip back into mp3's.

there is an article on how to decrypt Itunes file in this months issue of Maximum PC. I think the program  Seremaker is thinking of is called QTFairUse.

yeah.. kind of, ever since my hard drive crashed a while back and I installed vista, networks have been a little shifty.  It doesn't want to set up and I can't figure out why.. but I'll give that a shot.

ok that is the easiest solution. make sure to run itunes as an adminstrator. also if you wann transfer files that you bought just make sure that you authorize the computer in itunes and your good to go.
