it's just the school network is very "limited" as to what you can do ... and if i can't access youtube i doubt i can run .exe's that's all.
I really don't want to sound like an asshole, but how can you surf the internet if you can't fire up an exe? How can you open any Word document without starting winword.exe?
For my understanding YouTube is blocked in the DNS server, in a router or in a firewall or maybe in your school's proxy. But those devices can't prevent an exe from being started.
Or, in other words, have you tried to run an exe residing on your thumb drive?
And, what OS is installed on your school's PCs, XP or Vista? Indeed, if it's Vista, chances are, that you are not allowed to run any exe. With XP, there should be no problem.
It's not about being picky about something, but in my opinion encryption via WinZip or 7Zip is easy to break. There are If the security is strong enough for you, though, never mind and forget my post. If not, give TrueCrypt a chance.

well i don't mean it like that. i mean we can't install our own programs or run programs not installed by the network. ie. when i run the portable apps i get an xp error about software privileges .....
So you tried it and it didn't work? That's really mean. I love portableapps. And they will be installing Vista on our company's PCs in the near future, and I assume Vista will not allow me to start 'unreleased' software...
Well then, maybe here's another solution: get Acrobat or PDFFactory or so and save your documents as PDF with encryption and password.
