Why in the hell does my zipline have the kickback of a friggen 19th century cannon????

When I shoot the dang thing it propels me 5 feet backwards. ITS A ZIPLINE FOR CHRIST SAKE. By this logic, when compared to the other weapons of BF2, I'm guessing it must fire that arrow with enough velocity to pierce a tanks armor and harpoon the driver.

watch out tank commanders, I'm going bow hunting.

yes, i have fallen to my death many a time due to this.... i dont think its as much of kick as it is the game having to relocate you because it is puting in a new ojbect at your position ( IE: the zip line-holder-upper ).....

the worst thing is when you fall in the sea and you have to swim back to base

yes, I kind of figured that that giant stand which seems to sprout out of thin air which holds one end of the zip is what makes you "relocate." they probably could have done a slightly better job with this when coding the game, I still find it very, very amusing when you shoot the zip like and get blasted backwards.

I find the zip lines to be a little buggy and inconsistent, there are times when after firing it I can't get on it for no apparent reason at all, or I get stuck 3 feet from where I climbed on when there is clearly no obstruction.

i hate it when it missses and knocks u off long enough u cant pick it back up...so ur stuck without it till u die...

happened to me a few times...got good circle indication then shoot it and knocks me off far enough i cant pick it up...lol

i think it should stay there longer so u have more time to run around to ladder and climb up to it or wait for your assult squad member to toss a graphel up to pick it up again - its hard to run to a zip line that was used 57 stories up at its max range and climb a ladder up to the end of it...lmao

You can also change the actuall zipline to a flaming arrow!

another nice feature is when you grab a hold of your zipline (which was deployed after 15 attempts) and you dont zip down but stand back where you shot it, kinda like a loophole opened up in that spot

That would actually be fun... seriously, why can't I kill with that massive arrow? Sucks somehow...

I used it once of that Euro rocket gantry. I never noticed a kick, maybe the railing was holding me still?
Did you try kneeling or prone maybe?
Is there a real life "Zip line" ? It seems improbable. They should have an exploding soccer ball too. I'd like to smack people with a Polo mallet. I know the mood strikes me often in the park. lol

Oh man, I can think of two fun scenarios.. (using you'r armor-piercing zip-line)

#1: zip-lining from one chopper to another...
#2: zip a plane and hang on

Maan id love a mod of this. "Bf2 goes medieval" Arrows, full body armor, knife=sword and so on...There should be atleast 10 people in a vehicle at the same time. 1-2 driving it and 8 people pushing it forward. Imagine karkand with just swords and axes clashing together...priceless

Actually the chopper thing gave me an idea. if we ever get an sf with jets i plan to throw a grapple over the wing and see if it stays connected while the jet flys. would be halarious if it did. suddenly every jet taking off would have stringers holding on for dear life till they decide to bail off an parachut down.

this brings up anothe rpoint though. why the hell don't supply crates/ammo pouches refil your grapple or zipline when you don't have it anymore. (for reason such as getting knocked off the building and such.(

I could swear it did reload at a supply crate. Iknow you you can pick up a grappling hook if it doen't reach and falls to the ground, press " G ".

You can "reload" your grapplinghook/zipline. It just takes a few sec's more .

I would love to see Zip lines anchor somthing to the ground.  Use it to trap a jet, fire onto the flap, wait for them to go, and part of the wing gets riped off

Has any one tried shooting some one with a zip line?  I am just curious if it would work.  thier is a stat for it, I have 1 death holding a zip line. . . now I just need kills holding it.

Well Midevil I do not know about.  But if you want to get some SPQR action going on, look at Age of Battle field.  A multi erra mod for BF2

Latest render updates for that mod can be found here

Yeah, we've all tried. I spent a solid 20 minutes shooting my second computer with a zipline from all angles and into all body parts. No damage or kills

sometimes when you zipline a guy they are stuck completeley and open for a zip in and knife.

although my favorite bug with the zip is when you shoot it, the little stand pops up and there is no line connected to it. It had nothing to do with range because i had made the same gap many times before, should get a screenshot next time. course i just gathered it and reshot but still...

if you zip to a vehicle that then starts moving, your zip will disappear right?

completely off topic...

I was on Sharqi, on the top of the tv tower, Commander dropped a supply crate just in front of the tower. I saw it comming down, needed some health and ammo, so I jumped off of the roof as it passed and deployed my chute to reload on the way down. For some odd reason, I landed ON THE CRATE and my chute went away... I was riding the crate down to the ground... The kicker was that one of my squad mates was at the flag base and saw me floating down on it. Wish he took a screenshot.

Good times on BF2
