My video card, i now know thanks to the members of the forum, has died.  I was wondering what everyone would suggest as a replacement.  I can't afford an 8800, but a 8600GTS may be within range, I'm looking for something that can run current games at least within med-high settings.

Please let me know what you would recommend, any reason you may have would be great also.

Thanks in Advance,

PC Specs:

ABIT AL8 mobo
2GB (2x 1GB Corsair Select) Dual-Channel RAM
Antec 450W PS
ABIT X800XL 256 PCI-E
Pentium D 2.8Ghz
Zalman CPU Fan
WD (80Gb, 160Gb, 320Gb) HD

Med/high?
I think a 7950 would do by itself.

So, waiting on a DX10 card would be best...

Well, if you're thinking about Crysis, then not even an 8800 GTS would play at its best.

A 7800GTX plays it med/high according to Crytek. I wouldn't be suprised if an 8800GTS is fine for Crysis.

Don't believe all the stupidly inflated specs people keep talking about for Crysis.

Med/High, you could get away with a 7600GT. Anything equal to or better than that will be fine.

Indeed. If Crysis was everything every1 says it will be then no1 would be able to play it..... and lets face it people - its only another game after all.....

Exactly! What would be the point in releasing a game no one can play.

all you need to do is save 40$ more and you have a 8800gts. The 8600gts is not worth it. Its basically even (better in some parts) to a 7900gs which is only 130$ now 70-80$ cheaper than a 8600gts.

Get the 8600GT(or 8800GTS just save a little more money) that way u will have a 100% dx10 card and not have to waste money l8er on a new one that is DX10

Do NOT get the 8600 series unless you are going to be decoding alot of HD-DVD / Blu-ray. There are cards that perform better in DX9 at a lower price.

I ended up getting a 7900GS, one of my friends knew a guy who was selling it for $130...so it worked out for me in the end i guess...it was an expensive day...

Thanks to everyone for their input.
