Which racing game should i get? I want a racing game that can play online without all those dumb issues like lag or that. So is an Atari product better than an EA product?

Oh yeah, hows the transmission shifting like? Shift for shifting the gear up and ctrl for shifting it down?

Carbon was fun.

Never played the other one, so i can't comment on it.

Test Drive Unlimited is amazing, the perfect mix of realism and fun. I've always been a Need For Speed fan but this is so much better!

I'm a huge fan of the NFS series and I have both Carbon and TDU.  I use a gamepad, so I'm not sure what buttons are used for shifting.  But you could map those to whatever keys you want.

Carbon can be played online and it's ok, but most of the time the other cars skip around the screen.  Single player Carbon is awesome, best NFS game yet as far as I'm concerned.  The car customization options are almost limitless.

In my opinion TDU is better online, but lacks the depth of car customization that Carbon has.  TDU has much smoother gameplay and I haven't had any issues with lag at all.  You can choose between an offline and an online profile, but if you choose offline, you cannot convert it to online status.  TDU is more fun in my opinion because you're not restricted at all online.  You can drive anywhere you want on the 1,000s of miles of road and do what you want.  You can just play the single player online challenges to build up money, race multiplayer challenges, or challenge another driver to a race by flashing your lights at them when the get close.

So in summary: Carbon has more polished looking cars and more customization, but the online play pretty much sucks to the level that's it's barely playable online.  TDU has great online gameplay, LOTS more cars, and gives you lots of freedom to do what you want, but sacrifices the level of car detail and car handling that Carbon has.  I have both, but if I had to choose and wanted online play I’d go for TDU.

carbon was short as hell, and boring. I sold it after a month. TDU has to be longer than what carbon had to offer.

I don't understand the point of TDU in all honesty.

TDU, loads of fun and missions to do, the online fun with other gamers makes it really cool.
